PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR MY DESSERTATION. ABSTRACT
With the now existence of many steel producing, manufacturing and selling agents in the steel industry in Zambia, much worry should be placed in the amount of safety that exists and is being implemented in the industry. This is to the fact that steel workers are exposed to dangerous, hazardous and fatal injuries when working. Despite this worrying situation, international awareness of the magnitude of the problem remains surprisingly modest. The inadequate dissemination of knowledge and information hampers action, especially in developing countries. It also limits the capacity to design and implement effective policies and programmes. The fatality, accident and disease figures are alarming but investment decisions continue to be made in disregard of safety, health and environmental considerations (Ali, 2001). With the owners of these industries mainly concerned with making huge profits, they sideline the arising costs due to poor health and safety practices, hence, awareness on occupational, safety and health is needed.
