...The Principle Objectives of Punishment within the Correction System The Principle Objectives of Punishment within the Correction System This analysis will cover several topics. The paper will compare objectives of punishment between state and federal. Another part of the discussion will cover how sentencing impacts the state and federal correction system. The last section will cover sentencing models. What are the state and federal objectives of Punishment? Each year thousands of individuals appear before a judge for sentencing of a crime one committed. Sentencing for felony offenses normally carries a punishment of incarceration of one year or more. Misdemeanors crimes carry incarceration sentencing of less than one year. Judges must review and consider complicated sentencing laws for each individual’s case, prior to sentencing. Judges of the 21 st century have less discretion in sentencing options than the past. There are mandatory minimum guidelines a judge must follow for sentencing. The judges must also follow the three-strike laws for repeated offenders. There are sentencing for some crimes that have little consideration to personnel factors regarding offenders, their crimes, and the victims. There are six general categories of sentencing under state penal codes that are available to judges for sentencing options. 1) Economic sanctions – offenders pay a fine or restitution to the victim or complete community service. These are standalone sentences without probation...

...now in the Huntington Library, San Marino California” in the notes of his 1962 second, revised edition (Source 3) based on the third of the “Harrow Replicas” (published in 1942 by Chiswick Press, London), a facsimile of the first issue of Parthenia. Dr. Edward Rimbault, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, edited the Parthenia, which was republished in 1847 by the Musical Antiquarian Society (Source 2). In his introduction, Rimbault states that “subsequent impressions (always from the original plates) appeared in 1635, 1650, and 1659” but Dart, in his introduction says that “Other issues allegedly dated 1635, 1659, and 1689 appear to be no more than ghosts, created from misreadings of figures or titles, for no copies bearing these dates can be traced in the principal libraries of the world.” Immediately, I was wary about these two sources, because of the mismatch of the information given by the two. Rimbault did include a page of the Fantazia of Foure Parts in his introduction but does not state from which copper engraving it was from. Because Dart says that Rimbault does own the only single copy of the first printed collection of Parthenia, it is not unreasonable to assume that the picture is that of the 1611 publication but I am hesitant to state assuredly that it is from such source. This picture however, will serve as my first source and will be used as the “first edition” source of this piece. The music in Source 1 is written in F clef on six...

...The talk Biblio Service Michaela Haase Jackall, R., The World of Corporate Managers – Twentieth Anniversary Edition, Oxford University Press, New York 2010 A Capsule Summary of the Book This is the second edition of a book whose first edition was published in 1988. There has been no revision of the book; however, Jackall has added a new chapter titled “Moral Mazes and the Great Recession” to it. His description of the financial crisis brings nothing really new to the fore: it shows that nothing has changed in the aftermath of the convulsions caused by several occurrences of crisis in the financial sector or the business world in the last decade. Managers (of banks, insurance enterprises, of Enron, etc.) play(ed) high-risk games at the cost of the organization; they plunder(ed) the assets of employees and shareholders as well. If they win, they take all the gain; if they lose, they call for the taxpayer’s money because their organizations are too big to fail. They never think about stinting with their bonuses even if the taxpayers have to save the organization they work for because otherwise these same managers would leave it and so dispossess it of their skills and competence which, so they think, are badly needed to set it afloat again. Objective and Targeted Audience Jackall’s detailed sociological study of the managerial world is not written for a particular target group. As Jackall has clarified throughout a recent interview,1 his study is “part of a larger project...

...Significant Event Final Paper Intro to Psychology Strayer University Professor Donna Joy A childhood event I went through that I vividly remember happened during the year between the age of 15 and 16. During this event, I went through what I call a self-implosion. (Luce, 2013) My cognitive perspective was being challenged, and I lost the ability to cope with events I was going thru. (Lopez, 2010) Communication these events sometimes became very difficult. How I handled most of the events during this time frame was mostly shaped by how I was brought and the beliefs that were instilled in me as a very young child. I was raised in a family six, three older sisters and two younger brothers. My parents nurtured us in loving Christian manner, always teaching us to turn the other cheek. Abide by the rules set before us not to make too many waves, and trust that things will work out eventually. If you work hard enough, you can rise above whatever obstacles are before you. Many of my mannerism was influenced by my parents as I observed them in their daily activity and interaction with others and also how they treated my siblings and me. As an adolescent I was short, larger in stature, and did not always have the latest to wear in the fashion department. All of these things along with a slightly gifted mind and a thirst for knowledge led me to be ridiculed by peers. There was many time when I was picked on by people who I thought were my friends until I displayed I was slightly...

...Writing Algebraic Expressions Introduction to Algebra Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. —RONALD E. OSBORN ust over a century ago only about one in ten workers was in a professional, technical, or managerial occupation. Today this proportion is nearly one in three, and the study of mathematics is essential for anyone who wants to keep up with the technological changes that are occurring in nearly every occupation. Mathematics is the language of technology. In the information age, mathematics is being used to describe human behavior in areas such as economics, medicine, advertising, social networks, and Internet use. For example, mathematics can help maximize the impact of advertising by analyzing social networks such as Facebook. Today’s business managers need employees who not only understand human behavior but can also describe that behavior using mathematics. It’s just a matter of time before the majority of the workforce will need the analytic skills that are taught in mathematics classes every day. No matter what career path you choose, a solid background in mathematics will provide you with opportunities to reach your full potential in your vocation, income level, and lifestyle. ...1. Explore the significance of the British and American first-past-the-post election system with special reference to its effect on the party system in each country. How does it limit the development of third parties? Why have the Liberal Democrats been successful in joining the government despite the strong limits on representation that the electoral system provides? Britain and America are quite commonly known as first world countries (highly developed countries) and they are known to be the most powerful countries in the world. Britain and America practice the same type of electoral system that is first past the post. Their political system is large and intense mainly due to the size of the countries. As mention in the book Introduction to comparative politics: poltical challenges and changing agenda( fifth edition) ,Britain have a democratic parliamentary government headed by a Monarch and Prime minister and on the other hand the US (America) has a Presidential system and a Federal government with power share between the National government and fifty (50) states government. Both America and Britain have a bicameral system. In Britain, the Heads of state and Heads of Government are different in the role they play in that the monarch (which is the queen) and also the Head of state is responsible for mainly ceremonial duties, the Prime minister (Head of government) looks after the day to day affairs of the government. Any decision that is made needs the queen approval. In...

...Once again, Robert Sedgewick provides a current and comprehensive introduction to important algorithms. The focus this time is on graph algorithms, which are increasingly critical for a wide range of applications, such as network connectivity, circuit design, scheduling, transaction processing, and resource allocation. In this book, Sedgewick offers the same successful blend of theory and practice that has made his work popular with programmers for many years. Michael Schidlowsky and Sedgewick have developed concise new Java implementations that both express the methods in a natural and direct manner and also can be used in real applications. Algorithms in Java, Third Edition, Part 5: Graph Algorithms is the second book in Sedgewick's thoroughly revised and rewritten series. The first book, Parts 1-4, addresses fundamental algorithms, data structures, sorting, and searching. A forthcoming third book will focus on strings, geometry, and a range of advanced algorithms. Each book's expanded coverage features new algorithms and implementations, enhanced descriptions and diagrams, and a wealth of new exercises for polishing skills. The natural match between Java classes and abstract data type (ADT) implementations makes the code more broadly useful and relevant for the modern object-oriented programming environment. The Web site for this book (www.cs.princeton.edu/~rs/) provides additional source code for programmers along with a variety of academic support materials for educators...
