General labour relation goals of South west management are to build solid relations with its work force through negotiations with labour unions and by ensuring transparency and consistency in their relations in order to motivate its employees and become more profitable. General labour relation goals of employees’ union are to struggle for better working conditions and compensation for its member through negotiation with company’s management. Goal of society is that labour unions and company management work together cooperatively to resolve their conflicts through negotiations so that the society can benefit.
Goals of management and unions are conflicting where unions negotiate for higher compensations and management in order to increase profits wants to reduce or maintain its labour costs. Goals are consistent where both management and labour unions strive for long-term well being of company and customer satisfaction so that company can make profits and unions can negotiate for increase in their compensations.

Question 2:
Southwest’s labor relations help promote the company’s sustainability. Southwest has cooperative relations with labour unions and it strives to motivate its employees. The attitude at the top management level is that the union representation is an effective voice on behalf of employees. Through negotiations management has provided best working conditions in industry to its employees. Management in cooperation has developed work rules with employees. Cooperative spirit also continued through the negotiation of eight labour contracts. The company has shown consistency in its relations even during recession when company avoided any lay-offs.
