...We live in a society where inventions and new technology are the norm. Our society constantly encourages inventors to create something that could be useful to people that is both creative and imaginative. Not all inventions are created equal, some inventions help people by saving their lives, and other inventions simply make living day to day life more pleasurable. If I were able to choose the next great invention it would definitely have to be an invention that would have a great impact on human life. My father passed away in 2004 at the age of forty eight due to health complications. The sad thing is he had no idea that he was suffering from complications such as hypertension and diabetes because he felt healthy. There are countless individuals who don’t go to the doctor regularly for numerous reasons. I personally know people who don’t go to the doctor because they don’t have insurance and can’t afford a visit to get a basic check up. I also know individuals who are just scared because of all the negative stories they hear so they feel that if they don’t go to the doctor they won’t receive any bad news. That is why I decided to make my invention a MRI wand called the Home Magnetic Resonance Imaging Wand or HMRIW for short. This wand would be the same size as a hand held metal detector that security guards use outside of clubs. The impact that the HMRIW. would have on the people in the world would be great because it takes away a lot of the reservations that people have about...

...amount of technological advances. The ideas and inventions which came about during these years were some of the most influential and life changing happenings in American history. Morale was high, and people were given opportunity to work on these new ideas rather than worry about invasions and the possibility of a life built around fear and war. In 1946 a man by the name of John Biggins introduced the first credit card to America. With this new idea, a person would present the card (then only a piece of paper) to a merchant, and the bill for the purchase would be sent along to Biggins’ bank. The bank would then pay the bill, and the account holder would be responsible for reimbursing the bank at the end of the month. This was huge to the American people. As the years progressed consumers were able to purchase more items, and in the 1950’s the credit card was widely responsible for the boom in purchasing consumer goods. Charles Ginsburg invented the first video tape recorder in 1951. Ginsburg led a research team at a company called apex, and was primarily responsible for the bulk of the ideas and production of the device. With this new invention, video cameras images could be captured and stored magnetically on rolls of magnetic “tape”. The invention is one of the most prolific happening in human history, as it allowed moments to be saved and replayed by everyday people. The year 1952 brought with it the invention of the bar code. Joseph Woodland, and Bernard Silver...

...Chinese Inventions World Cultures II World Cultures II May 24, 2012 “Chinese Inventions” The United States Independence Day is July 4th and on this day fireworks light the sky. To know the day of the week Independence Day will fall on, we check a 365 day calendar. On Independence Day Americans put up flyers advertising firework shows using a combination of paper and printing. In order to arrive at the firework show a person may use a compass to help find the way. At the firework show a person may observeb a card game using playing cards. There may be food at the show for sale that may upset a person’s stomach and they may have to use the rest room. Using the restroom includes using toilet paper. While the firework show is very entertaining and festive, some Americans have their own traditions. Some may shoot at the sky with a gun using gunpowder. All these different things that can happen on any given Fourth of July in the United States are made possible by the Chinese. The Chinese innovative and creative inventions make the festive of any given Fourth of July possible. The inventions include Paper,Printing,Gunpowder, and theCompass, theCalendar year 365, Fireworks, Playing cards and Toilet paper. Though all these inventions are important in society today there are four inventions that are the most important. Those four inventions that are the most important are the compass, the calendar year 365, paper and printing. The invention...

...is unlike any other country I have read about; winning a trip to china would be a dream come true! As far back as it has been documented, China has created a number of useful inventions. And, their contributions to the world, in my opinion, cannot be compared to anyone else. These useful inventions and wonderful contributions are timeless. Items such as toilet paper, tooth brush, fork, and the calendar year are used every day and can practically be found in every household. While there are a variety of inventions the Chinese have made, to me, their extraordinary contributions to the society are paper, printing, gun powder, and compass because they have made a huge impact on the entire globe. To begin, I must say, many different items that were used before paper was invented: bamboo silk, papyrus, and parchment. However, these items were not without problems associated with their usage. There were varying degrees of surface smoothness, expense, preservation, and storage requirements. By 105 BC Cai Lun overcame many of the limitations by inventing a new writing medium known as paper from bark, hemp, and rags. During this time, the raw materials could be found easily and at lower prices compared to former methods. Essentially, this contribution helped the development of civilization. Another useful invention to come out of China was printing. The first form of “printing on paper” came from rubbings. The process consisted of smoothing a piece of paper with a brush, the paper was...

...Chinese Inventions We are a society of the “new and improved” and we don’t consider the things we have come to love and depend on as ancient inventions, but they are. The Chinese are among the world leaders when it comes to inventions. They are responsible for giving us the beginnings of many inventions we still use today. The printed page, for example, was given to us through several Chinese inventions such as paper, ink, and type. Many of these inventions we take for granted like the umbrella, fan, compass, gunpowder, the clock, and cast iron. Of the countless Chinese inventions, I consider following four most important. Paper changed has the world in a very significant way. I think you would be amazed if you counted every time you touched, used, or have seen paper in one day of your life. Paper is known to have been used as far back as 5000 years ago in Egypt. The Egyptians used what is known as papyrus which is not what we use today in 2011. It was during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE) that paper was not only invented, but they also made it new and improved. Cai Lun in 105 CE improved both the technique and the quality of paper. “Modern Technologies have simplified the process but the method of Cai Lun basically stays unchanged” today. (Sayre, 2012, p 226). The Chinese had developed a way to put print onto paper by carving words and pictures into wooden blocks, putting the block into ink, and then pressing it onto paper. This is very similar to the...

Philo Taylor Farnsworth moved to a new home with his family in 1918 to Rigby, Idaho. On the way he dreamed of making inventions. In the attic of the new house he found some science magazines. He read the science magazines and learned about the TV and many other inventions. After reading the science magazines he decide he could make TV better. He applied for patents for the TV in 1927 and got them in 1930. In 1939 the TV was shown at the World’s Fair in Queens, New York. ...Valuable Chinese Inventions Strayer University Valuable Chinese Inventions The Chinese have made many useful inventions that have advanced their culture and others around the world. If it wasn’t for such great ingenious inventions, life even today would be drastically different. Think of that beautiful silk scarf you have being nonexistent. Imagine wars being fought today without guns and grenades. Think of enjoying delicious dishes such as soup and spaghetti without those stringy satisfying noodles. The Chinese people have made spectacular inventions such as great fabrics like silk to innovative combat aids such as Gunpowder and possibly even noodles. In my quest to win a trip to china, this essay will expose the inventions I find to be of the greatest significance to society (Henry, 2011). Gunpowder, was accidentally invented, the intended use of the substance was to create immortality in humans. Gunpowder did not create immortality, but was lethal if used in explosives. It was made from potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulfur. The Chinese learned of the mixtures power, and soon used it in fire explosives such as hand grenades (Clark, 2013). The Compass was originally designed to point the “true south”, but had since been used to point to the North. The first Compasses were made of magnetic iron ore, called lodestone. Lodestone becomes highly magnetized when struck by lightning, and points between the North and South Pole. Men would balance the device on a flat surface...

...How cool do you think it would be to make your own invention? Well, back in Ancient China they made their own inventions and they have quite an influence on our lives. Their inventions have been impacting the world from their time and it would be pretty cool if they still impact the world for later centuries. Some inventions they made are printing press, the compass, gunpowder, the kite, and the Silk Road, but the one that has the most influence on us today is paper. Their other inventions have some influence on us, but some just have more than the others. The biggest influence on us right now, and hopefully for centuries to come is paper. Paper has the biggest influence on us because we use paper everyday and without it, we wouldn’t be...

This patent shows the hard work Elijah McCoy put into improving technology for everyone.Elijah McCoy created a helpful invention to trains, used persistence to innovate a way to overcome obstacles, and illuminated the world by making steam engines efficient. Create Elijah McCoy was an inventor who created the first lubrication device. His lubrication device fixed the problem of trains having to stop every few miles to be oiled. The device used steam pressure to evenly pump oil to wherever it was needed. Elijah McCoy received over 50 patents related to lubrication devices (Elijah McCoy Biography). He received his first patent on July 12th 1872 for the lubrication cup (Elijah McCoy 1844-1929). Although he was recognized for his achievements then, his name wasn't on most of his inventions. Instead, the were sold to his employers or investors (Elijah McCoy Biography). Today, Elijah McCoy is best known for his inventions and his accomplishments in making train...

...Some of the world’s greatest inventions came from China. Throughout history, emperors inspired the development of science and technology, and for centuries China led others into these areas. The world is forever in debt to China for its inventions and ideas. Some of the most important innovations were paper, gunpowder, and silk. The first important invention from China is paper. In Document 2, it shows how important paper was to China. Obviously writing on pure wood is a lot harder than writing on paper. It also takes a lot more wood (obviously). Just imagine today’s education system without paper. It would be so much different. Document 2 says that making paper took plenty of bamboo fiber. In order to create it, they used a mold with a bamboo...

...Top 10: Greatest Inventions Of All Time Inventions are pretty useful things, in fact, inventions are very useful things. People are inventing new things all the time - unfortunately, the vast majority of inventions tend to be utterly useless; but every now and then someone comes up with something that completely changes the world and it is these few ideas that this hub is about. Now, there are, undoubtedly many equally great inventions as those on this list, but unfortunately it's had to be cut down to just 10. Things such as language have been omitted from this list for, while they are, indeed, quite useful, they were more developed out of necessity than invented; the same applies to fire - it has always been present on this earth, all we did was work out how to create it on a whim! So what are they? Read on.... 10 - The Wheel: I know what you're thinking: "what, those round things?" well, the short answer is "yes", the long answer: "yes it is". Point is, the wheel is the simplest invention in the universe - you need only scoop up a handful of mud, pat it into a circle and leave it in the sun to dry! So what's so great about it? Well, almost every land vehicle in existence uses wheels as do many many other things like anything with a belt drive (car engines, conveyor belts etc.) In fact, life would be pretty hard without it - but not impossible. The Incas and Aztecs, for example, despite coming up with fully working calendars and a vast knowledge of astronomy, didn't use wheels...

Today people are inventing new inventions, that we didn't need twenty years ago. As our population grows, we are needing new inventions. How do inventors know their invention isn't a failure? What can an inventor do to ensure success. An inventor can ensure success if they have the people's opinion. When an inventor creates a new invention he or she needs the opinion of somebody to know if the invention is good or a failure. In passage 3 " Accidental Genius" it states," No matter how many times he tried the customer kept sending the plate back....
