Overview
I have inherited $2.5 Million dollars from the passing of my dear Uncle Jessup Waterloo. After much deliberation I have decided to invest my monies into capital markets such as NASDAQ and so on. To further increase my inheritance I chose to disburse the money accordingly:
• $1.5Million into capital markets
• $500,000 donated to UrbanPromise Charity
• $500,000 into a regular bank account The $1.5 million into capital markets allows me to take a risk towards making good investment choices that could reach a high yield of return. Being a native of New Jersey it would not feel right if I did not give back to my community. I am going to make a $500,000 donation to UrbanPromise based in New Jersey. This organization has devoted its time and monies to helping our youth through job training, after school programs, religion, and college tours to name a few. By withholding $500,000 I have some reserve money and also some liquid assets if my investments don’t go as planned.

Strategy/Execution

Acquisition of the shares bought into these companies began on November 18th, 2013 and were sold November 22nd, 2013. First I plan to do my own research to find companies that interest me. Next I plan to communicate to my broker about my interest in different companies and industries. Then between my broker and I we will come together to build my portfolio. If the portfolio needs attention such as buying or selling then I leave that matter in the hands of my broker, for we have designated an alternative strategy to reconstruct the portfolio to avoid losses. For the $1.5 Million I chose to invest in capital markets my plan is to be diverse but similar. An example is I purchased Verizon and Comcast but I also purchased McDonald’s and Wendy’s. The reason behind acquiring companies in such a manner is to one, compare and contrast, and to also study how competitors

Review on Kaplan and Zingales Research Paper About Relationship Between Investment Cash Flow and Financial Constraint

...Review and Evaluation on ‘Do Investment-Cash Flow Sensitivities Provide Useful Measures of Financing Constraints’ by Kaplan and Zingales (QJE,1997) The research paper written by Steven N. Kaplan and Luigi Zingales as titled above which was published in year 1997 is to test the relationship linking investment-cash flow with financial constraint. In their research, they found that firm with a low level of financial constraint have a tendency to have a high investment-cash flow sensitivity. However, the findings contradict with the other research paper especially the FHP, 1988 paper. They used the same sample used in research done by Fazzari, Hubbard, and Petersen (FHP, 1988). But they only took the firms from Class 1 in FHP research which is manufacturing firms and classified as low dividend firms with dividend payout ratio with value below 10%, where they believe to be firms with an abnormally high investment-cash flow sensitivity (Kaplan & Zingales, 1997). The reasons why Kaplan and Zingales chose Class 1 firms as their sample are because of the strong connection illustrated between the firm’s investment and cash flow, FHP argue Class 1 firms are financially constrained even the result indicates that the firms have significantly high sensitivity of investment-cash flow, and lastly because the sample size is considered manageable for a costly research design. They follow the same timeline which is from year 1970 to 1984. Research is conducted by first determining the demand...

Effects of Investment on Employment Creation, Ch2 and Ch3

...Experts Investment Investment is time, energy, or matter spent in the hope of future benefits actualized within a specified date or time frame. Investment has different meanings in economics and finance. In economics, investment is the accumulation of newly produced physical entities, such as factories, machinery, houses, and goods inventories. The word "investment" has become muddled with overuse. Referring to a stock or a bond as an investment is still in regular use, but now people make "investments" in their education, their cars and even their flat screen TVs. In this article, we will look at the three basic types of investment as well as some of the things that are definitely not investments - no matter what the commercial says (en.wikipedia.org). In simple terms, Investment refers to purchase of financial assets. While Investment Goods are those goods, which are used for further production. Investment implies the production of new capital goods, plants and equipments. Refers investment as real investment and not financial investment (John Keynes). Share Valuation

...Introduction: The main in this research assignment is to determine whether an investor should buy, hold, or sell the carefully chosen shares. The "Three-step down approach" was used to make conclusions and it also served as a guideline to the research. The two stocks that were chosen for the research falls within the financial sector, these two are FNB (First Rand Bank) and Nedbank. A brief analysis of the state of the economy and the financial industry was done. Furthermore a thorough investigation and analysis was done in respect of both firms. The Discounted cash flow and relative valuation techniques are used, both of these uses quantitative information. Cumulative information will also be incorporated to answer the objective and research hypothesis in a scientific and logical way. Dimensional Fund Advisors

...Strategy of DFA Dimensional is a different kind of investment firm headquartered in Austin, Texas with regional offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Santa Monica, Sydney, and Vancouver now (DFA 2012) which was founded in 1981 by David G. Booth and Rex Sinquefield, both graduates of the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business. The underlying principle of DFA is that the stock market was “efficient” which is, on one could beat the market consistently except by luck during some periods. The founders also believed that academic research and the ability of skilled traders could contribute to a fund’s profits even when the investment was inherently passive. At the first stage, DFA was aiming single investment fund that consisted with small stocks which fit its position in the market as a passive fund. The initial clients were major for tax-exempt institutions such as government, union pension funds and charities and etc. With the time going, DFA pursued individuals while through the intermediaries known as RIAs. Although with the low turnover, low transaction costs and diversification, DFA still could make reasonable profits by charging a moderate advising fee and developed rapidly. DFA is an outstanding investment firm doing the investment based on precise academic research and strict trading strategy which will both be discussed later. Over the years, DFA have translated financial research into real world investment solutions (DFA 2012) such as Fama-French findings which...

Why Are Value Investors Successful

...Value investing is the strategy of purchasing an asset which is trading at a significant discount from its determined intrinsic value. It has long been regarded as a low risk method of providing outstanding investment returns (Klarman 2001). The investment strategy was described by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd in their book, Security Analysis (1940, p. 724). Over subsequent decades the investment approach has evolved utilizing varying fundamental methodologies but always maintaining the principle of investing when a discount to intrinsic value exists. Graham and Dodd (1940, p. 368) referred to this principle as the 'margin of safety'. This essay will explore the various methodologies, expand on the 'margin of safety' concept and discover the factors that have led to the success of the exponents of value investing. Bierig’s (2000) assessment of the Graham and Dodd approach indicated that a value investor doesn’t just follow share market fads but instead ‘searches for stocks selling for less than their intrinsic value’ and after purchasing, waits for market recognition that corrects this discrepancy. Athanassakos (2011b) has illustrated that a search for undervalued stocks is the initial process undertaken. He maintains that these stocks tend to be ‘avoided by large institutional investors’ and are not the ‘glamour stocks everyone wants to own’. Graham (1973, p. 211) describes two methods of searching for fundamentally undervalued stocks; companies selling at a low price to...
