Identifying the ports:

1/8-Inch Audio Mini-Jack. The 1/8-inch audio mini-jack is used by sound cards and motherboard-integrated sound for speakers, microphone, and line-in jacks, To avoid confusion, most recent systems and sound cards use the PC99 color coding listed as follows: * Pink—Microphone in * Light Blue—Line in * Lime Green—Stereo/headphone out * Brown—Left to right speaker * Orange—Subwoofer
USB Port Types, Speeds, and Technical Details
There are three standards types of USB ports you need to know: * USB 1.1 * USB 2.0 (also called Hi-Speed USB) * USB 3.0 (also called SuperSpeed USB)

VGA
VGA is an analog display standard. DVI
The DVI port is the current standard for digital LCD monitors. The DVI port comes in two forms: DVI-D supports only digital signals, and is found on digital LCD displays. HDMI
Video cards and systems with integrated video that are designed for home theater use support a unique type of digital video standard known as High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI).

PS/2 (Mini-DIN)
PS/2 ports (also referred to as Mini-DIN ports) are used by PS/2 keyboards, mice, and pointing devices.

Parallel (LPT)
The parallel port, also known as the LPT (Line Printer) port, was originally designed for use with parallel printers.

Ethernet Port (RJ45)
An Ethernet port is a jack or socket on a computer that allows the use of an Ethernet connector. These ports are essential in allowing the creation of local area networks (LANs).

Removable Memory * CompactFlash (CF) is a flash memory mass storage device used mainly in portable electronic devices. * Memory Stick is a removable flash memory card format, launched by Sony in October 1998, and is also used in general to describe the whole family of Memory Sticks. * Secure Digital (SD) is a non-volatile memory card format developed by the SD Card Association (SDA) for use in portable devices. * The microSD removable miniaturized Secure Digital flash memory cards

SCSI
SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) is a very flexible interface because it can accommodate many devices in addition to hard disk drives. Currently, SCSI interfaces, either on the motherboard or as add-on cards, are found primarily in servers and are used for mass storage (hard disk, tape backup), although you might encounter workstations and PCs that use SCSI interfaces for devices such as * High-performance and high-capacity hard drives * Image scanners * Removable-media drives such as Zip, Jaz, and Castlewood Orb * High-performance laser printers * Optical drives * Tape backups

Hospital Tablet Recommendation

...assistance with a technical research and specification project related to the selection of a tablet device for use in their medical practice. This tablet will be used by personnel for medical and administrative purposes throughout the hospital. Criteria for Consideration The following criteria have been considered as part of this evaluation: Operating System: There are many different options available in healthcare mobility solutions; however, the three most common operating systems in place today are MS Windows 10, iOS 9.x and Android 6.0. There are well-defined positives and negatives around each platform that must be carefully reviewed prior to making a decision. As operating system selection is primary to device selection, it is critical that this step in the selection criteria is well thought out. When reviewing operating systems, it is important to keep in mind the initial criteria of this research. Selecting an operating system for an enterprise-based medical device is quite different than selecting an operating system and device for personal use. While the Apple iOS and Google Android OS are widely used, they lack the maturity of key features found in enterprise-class systems, such as multi-user access per device, enterprise security, and native device management. Third party solutions (Mobile Data Management) can provide some of these features to the Android and iOS platforms at additional cost and a lower level of integration. The Windows OS and its established...

...newness of this motherboard there are several IO connections that are not illustrated in our Diagrams. However as you can see we identified most of all the major IO ports in Diagram one and two. So let's start with what IO ports are not shown in the above Diagram. Diagram 2. Here is a representation of an RS232 Port. Simply put this is a serial data transmission / communications port. It is NOT a VGA (video) output port. It is importent to remember that older modles like the RS2323 are a twenty five pin IO where as the newer ones will be similar to the VGA nine pin. Here is a FireWire IO Port. This is a serial bus port that can reach speeds of four hundred Mbps while not loosing quality or signature of transfer. This port would mostly be used for a verity of multimedia devices or devices that are less permanent. Northbridge is known as the memory controller hub which typically handles the communications between the CPU, RAM, AGP or PCIe and Southbridge. Southbridge is responsible for the hard drive controller, IO controller, and any other integrated hardware. This could be things like sound, USB, PCI, IDE, BIOS, and Ethernet. Heat sinks are a dead give-away for the two Bridges. The Northbridge will typically be closer to the CPU and have a larger heat sink. Optical S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format) - This IO port is used for digital audio interconnection. PS/2 - This is the mouse and/or keyboard port. It's important to know that it was developed...

...Switches and Router Christina Bennett IT242 Switches and Router One of the main reasons that Cisco is number one in the enterprise networking market place is their Internetwork Operating System (IOS).The IOS provides a similar function to Microsoft Windows or Linux: it controls and manages the hardware it is running on. Basically, the IOS provides the interface between you and the hardware, enabling you to execute commands to configure and manage your Cisco device. “Originally, the IOS was developed for Cisco routers, but over the last few years, Cisco has been porting the IOS to it so there platforms, including the Catalyst switches”. (Cisco.com) There are actually many ways of accessing a Cisco device, including the following: console, auxiliary (only certain Cisco routers), telnet, web browser, and an SNMP management station .A console interface provides serial connection access to a router— with console access, you can enter commands in a text-based mode. In order to access your Cisco device from a remote station, however, you first need to create a basic configuration, including IP addressing. Therefore, to perform your initial configurations, you need access to the console port of your Cisco device. Before you can actually begin configuring your Cisco device, you first have to connect it to your network and set up a terminal connection to its console interface. No two routers are setup in the same manner; however, the command modes they use are pretty much alike...

...of setting up a Cisco router to provide Internet access to a small network. I’ll assume you have some basic IOS knowledge, including how to log on and how to save and clear configurations. I’ll also assume that you have a solid understanding of networking, including what Network Address Translation (NAT) is. I won’t cover items such as setting up Secure Shell (SSH) access and hardening access lists. You can expand into those areas as you feel comfortable and want to experiment more. What You’ll Need You need a Cisco router with at least two Ethernet interfaces. An 806, 836, 851, or 871 is ideal for a home or small office setup—in fact, that’s what those models are geared towards. You can buy an 851 for a few hundred dollars from various online retailers. However, a 2610 works just as well, and you might have one sitting in the equipment bin at your office that you can ask to borrow. Your router should have IOS 12.2 or later. This article is based on a Cisco 851W with IOS 12.4, including the IOS firewall feature set. You also need a Cisco console cable (sometimes called a rollover cable). One end has an eight-position, eight-conductor modular jack to connect to the router; the other end has a DB-9 serial connector. In recent years, the console cables that Cisco has shipped with its equipment have been light blue. You need a computer with a DB-9 serial port. In my experience, USB-to-serial converters work just fine for this application. You also need a computer with...

...Maryland University College CMIT 250 Prepared by: Devin Manning I. Site “Los Angeles” Challenge and Implementation The site administrator has requested that the site establishes remote IOS storage, remote management of switches, ACL list implementation, and a network time protocol for devices as described in the site specific portion of the scenario. II. Site Solutions and Technologies * The recommended course of action for the request of a remote IOS storage capability at the site would be to establish a remote access server using a HTTP/ HTTPS protocol as opposed to the SSH option mainly because of the security and control over things such as the internet connection to the routers from not only the user database, but the source addresses as well in regards to their perspectives. This particular protocol also requires the timing information to be in setup and in place which would complement the network time protocol solution that has been requested by the site. For this request, I would use the SonicWall software in order to setup up this capability along with the SonicWall UTM appliance that is provided by the company. * In order to address the remote management of the switches request, it would require a console cable and a server that has an available console port such as the Cisco Nexus 2228TP GE Fabric Extender expansion module which is one of the easier servers to use that also provides redundancy. At that point (via hypertext) the commands would be...
