This text took place on Facebook during a summer vacation where two friends were apart from each other; it was taken place from the year 2004 onwards as Facebook did not become as well known website until then. 3. Provide a 2 - sentence synopsis of the text.
This text is a back and forth conversation between AP, and PM. In this text they talk about their current experiences in the countries that they are in and exchange their thoughts and concerns with each other. 4. This electronic text was written for AP in relation to PM and PM in relation to AP, the purpose of this text is to inform. 5. Identify the main message and the theme.
The message of this text is the affect of social media on friendships, and the theme is the influence of distance on relationships. 6. Formulate a 3-prong thesis statement that revolves around the main message and purpose of the text. Your thesis statement MUST include tone, structural elements, and stylistic devices.
The one informs the reader that the message of the affect of social media on friendships is developed through the text through the use of tone, structural devices and stylistic devices.
BODY PARAGRAPH 1: TONE – 1 extended paragraph
1. Formulate a topic sentence that clearly states how tone shifts in the text and how this contributes to the development of the message and purpose of the text. [*For visual texts, clearly state the dominant tone and how it contributes to the development of the message and purpose of the text.
Through the use of tone, the author, student X, develops the message of the advantages that social media has on long distance relationships.

In the quote “ Whaaat are you ding in cali? GYLC? having fun? :D “ (Line 1) the diction of “whaaat?” creates a questioning tone, although at the end of the sentence the question “having fun?” creates a familiar tone. This creates a comforting mood in the audience as PM is first questioning AP as to why she in in California, although the audience is able to see that they are indeed well known friends as AP asks about GYLC and if she is having fun, which creates that comforting mood within the audience as they are now aware of the close friendship these two characters have.
In the quote “Hun im in Clai now” (Line 6) a loving tone is created which creates an affectionate mood within the reader as they are further introduced into the close relationship these two characters hold. The diction of “Hun” further accentuates the friendship of the two characters giving the reader an indication that these two characters have been friends for a long period of time as they are using informal language with each other such as the diction “Hun”
In the quote “waaaaahhh okay skype you SOON as I get home” (Line 10,11) a disappointed tone is created through the diction of waaaaahhh”. This also cerates a somber mood within the reader as the reader is able to see how PM is disappointed that they are not able to talk on Skype, further accentuating the readers knowledge that PM and AP hold a very close relationship with each other.

Through tone shift, the message of the advantages that social media has on long distance relationships is clearly shown, the loving tone in the beginning of the text helps both characters know they are being missed and loved, and the disappointing tone at the end of the text again helps the characters understand that the other character is upset that they are not able to communicate often, although they are still able to communicate through social media, accentuating the message of the advantages of social media on long distance relationships.
BODY PARAGRAPH 2: STYLISTIC DEVICES – 1 extended paragraph

Through the use of rhetorical devices, the author, student X, develops the message of the advantages that social media has on long distance relationships.

A hypophora is seen in this text in the quote, “im thinking that’s mutual” (Line 16)
This hypophora creates a contented mood within the audience as they see how AP from experience knows that PM has lots to tell her, this is only able to happen when two friends have been together for a long amount of time, as then they are able to predict what the opposite partner will have to say or do, the fact of wanting to express their experiences also adds to the message and accentuates their caring and loving friendship.

Through rhetorical devices we are able to see the friendship that AP and PM have, and the amount of time they have been friends. The need of wanting to express their experiences in the hypophoras also adds to the message of the advantages of social media on long distance relationships as they experience these experiences through social media.
BODY PARAGRAPH 3: STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS – 1 extended paragraph
1. Formulate a topic sentence that clearly identifies the overall structure of the text and states how structural elements contribute to the development of the message and purpose of the text.
Through the use of structural elements, the author, student X, develops the message of the advantages that social media has on long distance relationships.

There is Repetition at the end of every text, when hearts and kisses are exchanged; this creates a caring mood within the audience as they see how connected AP and PM are to each other and how much they care for one another. It further shows the informal bond the two characters have, once again showing how they have been friends for a while now.
The types of sentences in the text further develop the message. In the quote “what you doing in Cali?” (Line 1) or “how’s everything otherwise love?” (Line 8) These direct questions create an admiring mood within the reader as the reader appreciates the friendship both of these character have although they are separated from each other through distance. 2. Through structural elements such as repetition and types of sentences, the message of the advantages of social media on long distance relationships was developed, as the hearts and kisses were a sigh of their love and care for each other that they were able to express though social media, and the questions were another sign of the worry and appreciation both characters had for each other and could once again express through social media making the relationship easier to handle with distance in the equation.

Through tone shift, rhetorical devices and structural elements the message of the advantages of social media on long distance relationships was developed. 2. Make some links to the context of the text.
The loving and familiar tone of the text accentuated their care for each other, the hypophora allowed the reader to see how long they have had their friendship as they were able to predict their experiences abroad, and the structural elements such as the questions that were caring and loving gave the reader comforting and affection moods. 3. Provide some insight in relation to the theme, message, and purpose of the text.
Through these critical points, the message of the advantages of social media on long distance relationships was thoroughly developed.
