...did not do as well as Amazon had projected it to do, in fact the phone has done horrible. Amazon has sold no more than 35,000 phones since its release. This is a bad thing for Amazon, but a great thing for Apple, one less competitor that we have to focus on. This has been a great year for Apple, for many reasons. With the release of new products such as the iPhone 6 & 6plus, the soon to come Apple watch, the iPad air 3 and iPad mini 3 just to name a few. The success of the iPhone 6 & 6 plus has been in record number. With the release and the extreme success of our newest iPhone, it got the attention of our BIGGEST competitor Samsung. Samsung immediately took to advertising to make bold commercials about our new phone. With all the acquisitions of our new iphones bending, Samsung took this flaw if you would call it and tried to use it to its advantage in comparing it to there Note 4. Even so, Samsung clearly was threatened by the new iPhone and the positive response. They openly stated that the positive response to iPhone 6 plus prompted for early release on the Note 4. Those antics didn’t deter Apple users to continue t support Apples newest products and continue to purchase. Samsung only sold 4.5 million units in the first month, although this is a significant amount of sales, it no where near compares to the sales of the iPhone 6 & 6 plus, with 10 million being sold in the first 3 days. Another great thing that Apple and non-Apple users have noticed lately is the...

...It is a sign of both globalization and the rise of China. The release delay of the iPhone 6 in China has lead to fights in Apple stores across the world. Chinese expatriates have been lining up for hours along with half the Western world to purchase the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+. It has been reported by NBC that black market prices in China for the unreleased iPhone 6 have a mark up upwards of 300%. The delay in release in the Chinese market was caused by Chinese officials who had not yet approved of the product for general sale. Perhaps Apple should consider sending Chinese politicians early releases of their products rather like they do with American celebrities. But the delay has lead to a massive increase in price on the Black market. It is a telling sign that the Chinese consumer is willing to pay 3 times as much as an American consumer for something that is already a luxury item in America. There has been no reason given yet for the delay by Chinese officials, it could very well be due to competition with Chinese phone makers, or issues with the NSA’s ability to possibly tap the phone. But the massive demand and black market shows us that whatever the reason, restrictions or tariffs will simply lead to an increase in illegal activity and inflated prices. It is also important to note that the product was made in China. and in the 11 years since the original iPhone release China has gone from not even being a market for the product to quite possibly becoming the most important...

...suggests the iPhone 7 will be far less successful than both the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 6? The iPhone 6-era produced more growth than the iPhone 5-era (trend is in the right direction), AAPL is opening more retail stores in China now than ever before, China’s middle class is growing at a rate of 10% (assuming China GDP growth of 7%) and is expected to be 1.5x the size of the US middle class in 2017, and 30% of iPhone buyers are switching from Android. Although it was arguably reasonable for analysts to sound the alarm bells from 2013 through 2014 because era-over-era growth dropped from 563.3% (iPhone 4-era) to 51.1% (iPhone 5 era), it is unfounded today given a conservative iPhone 6 era-over-era growth estimate of approximately 63% (30%+ per year). This report focuses on the iPhone because it generates nearly 70% of AAPL revenue and 100% of growth. I bought AAPL on 2/16/2016 at $95.0 because the Street’s 2017 revenue and earnings estimates are irrationally low. Thesis Summary: * The Street focuses on QoQ growth rates and next quarter guidance, which equates to comparing every iPhone release with the previous release in order to project short to medium term iPhone revenue growth. This methodology would have an investor think that iPhone growth is slowing and the iPhone 7 will produce far lower growth than the 5 (~25%/year) or the iPhone 6 (~30%/year) * The reasonable/rational way to think about iPhone growth is “era-over-era” because all iPhone releases are not comparable...

...is challenged with responding correctly to competition with the right product to market, as well as how they are going to compete in new emerging markets. Apple is also challenged with coming up with not only short term solutions but creating new long term solutions to bring back the favorable growth they had received previously. Tim cook, CEO, will need to evaluate these challenges and make applicable changes to foster new sustainable growth at Apple. Solution #1 The first solution would be to beat Samsung in the smartphone race by creating the best spec’d phone of all time. Apple needs to stop following Samsung. As new Iphones have come out, Samsung has consistently put out a better technological option to follow Apple. Recently it has been so bad that you can go back two generations of Samsung S phones and that is comparable to the newest Iphone release. The key to Apples success will be to win the smart phone race and have the best product on the market at all times. Competitively, they would cut into Samsung’s market share turning positive growth again. Demographically, if Apple has the best technical phone, they will reach more target markets. Right now Apple has more of a younger demographic target with their hipper looking phones. Apple would be able to reach more business men and women, techy people, as well as older people. Culturally, Apple would tell people not only can you have a cool looking...

... Department] ABSTRACT iOS is Apple's mobile operating system developed originally for the iPhone, and later deployed on the iPod Touch and iPad as well. It is derived from Mac OS X, with which it shares the Darwin foundation, and is therefore a Unix-like operating system, by nature. In iOS, there are four abstraction layers: the Core OS layer, the Core Services layer, the Media layer, and the Cocoa Touch layer. The operating system uses roughly 500 megabytes of the device's storage. Version 4, announced in April 2010, introduced multitasking as well as several business-oriented features, including encryption for email and attachments. At the WWDC 2010 keynote on June 7, 2010, Apple announced that iPhone OS had been renamed iOS. Apple licenses the trademark for "iOS" from Cisco Systems (who own IOS), the same company with which Apple had earlier settled a dispute over the "iPhone" trademark. iOS 4 was released on June 21, 2010, three days before the iPhone 4. Staggering product launches reduces strain on Apple's servers. iOS 4 is the first version of the OS to be a free upgrade on the iPod touch; Apple had charged $9.99 for earlier upgrades. Apple previously announced that iPad users with 3.x software would receive a free upgrade to the next major (4.x) release. New features...

...weight battle to become king in the technology industry. While Apple released its first Macintosh computer in 1984, Microsoft followed shortly after with the release of Windows 1.0 just a year later. The two struggled to gain a foothold on the market, and have been trying to outdo one another ever since. Corporate Culture Apple has long been known to have a very uncompromising corporate culture. For years Steve Jobs ran the company as a perfectionist who, while very successful, was not typically willing to alter his vision in any way. Where some corporations are a collaboration between the ideas of many individuals with some give and take, Apple products were almost one hundred percent Steve Jobs uncompromising vision. With Microsoft Windows maintaining a huge market share in the personal computing business, Apple never swayed from the concept of putting their Mac OS only on Apple hardware, instead of licensing it to various hardware manufacturers so that it may be on a wide variety of systems. Apple has always been about the vision of Steve Jobs, and the man was almost more of a designer than a technology guru, which is an indication of why the Apple iPhone with its superior design has been so successful. Another noticeable concept of Apple’s corporate culture is its secrecy with new products. Whether it is the new iPhone, iPad, or Mac OS operating system Apple does not let any information leak until that calculated moment that they choose to announce is to the world. That moment...

...iPhone (/ˈaɪfoʊn/ eye-fohn) is a line of smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It runs Apple's iOS mobile operating system.[14] The first generation iPhone was released on June 29, 2007; the most recent iPhones are the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which were unveiled at a special event on September 9, 2014.[15] The user interface is built around the device's multi-touch screen, including a virtual keyboard. The iPhone has Wi-Fi and can connect to many cellular networks, including 1xRTT (represented by a 1x on the status bar) and GPRS (shown as GPRS on the status bar), EDGE (shown as a capital E on the status bar), UMTS and EV-DO (shown as 3G), a faster version of UMTS and 4G (shown as a 4G symbol on the status bar), and LTE (shown as LTE on the status bar).[16] An iPhone can shoot video (though this was not a standard feature until the iPhone 3GS), take photos, play music, send and receive email, browse the web, send texts, GPS navigation, record notes, do mathematical calculations, and receive visual voicemail.[17] Other functions—video games, reference works, social networking, etc.—can be enabled by downloading application programs (‘apps’); as of October 2013, the App Store offered more than one million apps by Apple and third parties[18] and is ranked as the world's second largest mobile software distribution network of its kind (by number of currently available applications).[19] There are seven generations of iPhone models, each accompanied by one of the...

...extraordinary pace since the invention of touchscreen and smartphone technology. The new technology development of the IPhone is creating a high intense competitive market and creates the need for constant innovation and separation from other competitors in the market. Since the introduction of touch screens and advanced 3, 4, and 5G technologies, the consumer trend and market curve is leaning away from the standard cell phone such as Motorola, Razors, and Blackberry to IPhones, Samsung Galaxies/Notes, Windows HTCs, and other substitutes with similar capabilities. Cellular phones no longer only serve as a verbal communication device but as a compact computer that has many of the same capabilities that the laptop or personal computer has in the home. Market Structure The smartphones market is relatively young and in the maturing stage with new and improved technologies developing every day. The direct competitors for Apple Inc. are Google, Samsung, Hewlett-Packard Company, BlackBerry Limited, and Microsoft (Apple Inc., 2014). There are large numbers of corporations in the smartphone industry, but none as large as the aforementioned top competitors. Many of the companies sell a similar product, but each tries to differentiate itself from the competition (McConnell, 2009). Apple sells its IPhone with special retina screens, and Samsung sells there Galaxy/Note with a larger screens and different apps. There are no major barriers to entry to the market, so firms that are not profitable...
