According to the National Apiculture Research Training and Development Institute (NARTDI), in 2004, there were 434 beekeepers in the country but in 2012, the number reduced by almost half, only 261 beekeepers left. Based from records gathered by NARTDI (2016), at present, there are only 202 active beekeepers with a total of 1,434 colony holdings in the Philippines. Among the regions where there are beekeeping projects, Region 1 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), have the most number of beekeepers. With little knowledge about the honeybees and their importance to human life, it is of no doubt that there is a limited number of people who are into keeping Apis mellifera species of bees compared to other commodities like livestock and poultry which are common...

Business Ethical Decision Making

...Introduction Ethical behavior is generally expected to be conducted within a business by its managers and employees. When business ethics is spoken by business people of it usually means one of three things (1) avoid breaking the criminal law in one’s work-related activity; (2) avoid action that may result in civil law suits against the company; (3) avoid actions that are bad for the company image (Erwin 2011). . Ethical issues in business will occur but can be solved and avoided in many cases that can help a company continue to be successful. Using an ethical decision making process will guide companies and its employees in the right direction to success and respect within the communities they serve. Most people involved in business whether functioning as a small business owner, employee, or chief executive officer of a multination company eventually face ethical or moral dilemmas in the workplace. Such dilemmas are usually complex, for they force the person making the decision to weigh the benefits that various business decisions impart on individuals including him or herself and groups with the negative repercussion that those same decisions usually have on other individuals or groups. What is Ethics? Business ethics is a subject that can be difficult to define. Any discussion of business ethics is a subjective one, for everyone brings different concepts of ethical behavior to the table. These moral standards are shaped by all sorts of things, from home environment to...

Vocabulary Instruction: Best Practices

...Vocabulary Instruction: Best Practices Raul A. Garcia Grand Canyon University SED: 535- Adolescent Literacy Prof. Dennis Fare May, 16, 2012 Meditation XVII: "No man is an Island, intire of it selfe; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee." (Donne, J., 1924/1987) I find it ironic that this poem is written in 1924 by a poet who has recently recovered an illness that nearly takes his life, and is again used in the book by Ernest Hemmingway For whom the bell tolls, in which the main Character is a professor at a University who is also an explosions expert on a mission to blow up a bridge. Yet knowing he will not survive his mission uses this poem as a reference to what he is sure will be his own death. However, as I think of this person being a professor would it be an irony that instead of being death it may talk about life as a teacher? For whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee, not to remind us of death but to remind us of our service to Mankinde. Does that bell toll for our students to get to class or does that bell toll to remind us of the commitment we made when we decided to be teachers of those students. Now that I have your...
