Is child behavior getting worst than ten years ago?

Life before, was children be seen but not heard. Did I agree with those terms, maybe not but those were the rules and we knew better than to break them. Children of the modern day have colorful voices, loud attitudes, and very bold personalities. Are we doing enough to keep our children safe or are we to busy being there best hangout buddies. Society has ensured our children if you talk back to your parents and we touch them we got your back just call. These are the days where we need to be strictly parents and leave the clubbing to our children. Most parents don’t know how to be parents because they were never taught by their parents. Parents usually react in one of two ways. Sometimes parents react passively. They give in to misbehavior because they do not feel like confronting the problem, at least not right now. Sometimes parents react with anger. Anger sometimes result in abuse and get out of face instead of talking to your children. Adults should already have a group of people that they call their friends. Parents need to know that while you want your children to come to you with everything and not turn to the world, they also need structure. Triggers can not only be detected by parents but also teachers that sometimes see them more than anyone. There are early warning signs in most cases of violence to self and others, certain behavioral and emotional signs that can signal a troubled student. Early warning signs are a signal that a student needs help! Teachers and administration need to take out time and focus on the things that trigger violent act: being bullied, teased, called names and take action. Some teachers are quick to place blame on the child that’s the victim and not the one causing the problem. Classes I understand compared to years ago are

Child Behavior Is Worse Today Than It Was Ten Years Ago

...Child Behavior is worse today than it was ten years ago Author: Takisha Wiggins Takisha Wiggins Eng 315-Fall 2011 Professor Ed Buchanan November 11, 2011 Is child behavior worse today than it was ten years ago? It’s interesting to see how children act these days. When I was growing up, we had things so easy and you could always see the good in people. Nowadays, you have children committing acts of violence at home, in the schools and on the street. I am interested in doing more research on this subject to find out why today’s kids have such bad behavior problems. It seems that the influences today have shaped our children into believing things that just simply aren’t true. The videos they watch, the television shows, as well as the music they listen to may contribute to the bad behavior. In this plan, I will identify the recipient, topic and purpose of this report. I will also list potential resources needed for support and methods used to gather information. I will also consider certain factors that I will make a recommendation for. Let’s examine this plan. 1. Identify the recipient of the report. (To what organization will the recommendation be directed?) 2. Identify the topic of the report. (What product, service, or program will you recommend?) 3. Identify the purpose of the report. (What need or problem will the product, service, or program resolve...

Critical Thinking

...issue of child behavior in school age children is growing rapidly and is far more worst than it was ten years ago. Some of the key role players in the behavior of children today are bad parenting, lack of respect from children, technology, like video games, cell phones, I pad, I phones, the prolong use of television and what is available for them to watch. All of these things is a distraction for children and is a part of their over all behavior. It’s not hard to see that the attitudes of some children have change over the years. All you have to do is look and listen. The children today seem to have an attitude about everything even at a young age. Some of them can’t even tell you what they are angry about. The evidence you will here in this paper is not only based on my own personal experiences but also from other researched articles. When I was growing up we had no choice but to respect our parents and elders. Talking back or acting act was not tolerated at all. Parents took the time to connect with their children instead of letting them sit in front of a television all day, or play on a computer. We had a set television time, bedtime, and playtime. And we didn’t have a problem following it because that was the rules. Children today have too much freedom. They have lost all respect for their parents and other including themselves. Their attention spans are very short and the littlest thing will distract them. As part of my evidence that children behavior is worst today...

Self Evaluation

...“What is your topic?” My topic is “Child behavior is worse today than it was ten years ago”. “What are the possible different main claims/positions related to this topic?” The possible different main claims/positions related to this topic are agreeing that child behavior is worse today, disagreeing that they are worst and also being neutral all with argumentative reasoning. “What is your position regarding the topic?” I agree that child behavior today is worse than it was ten years ago with argumentative reasoning. “What ‘evidence’ have you offered to support your claim/position? Have you included your survey results?” The evidence offered to support my claim/position is through conversations I have had with others on the subway, at work, at the beauty salon and just about everywhere I travel, also through my research of study on the subject. Yes, I have included my survey results. “Put your claim/position and “evidence’ through the ‘Scientific Method’ and ‘Proving a theory’ steps. Are there any steps on which your claim/position and evidence do not measure up to the examination? If so, what can you do to make them more acceptable?” Providing evidence through the ‘Scientific Method’ has measured up to the examination. However the steps to ‘Proving a theory’ may give you the evidence to have a strong case but not actually proof that your theory has been proven. There will most likely be other evidence that will give your audience or viewers a different perspective on...

...Critical Thinking Draft and self-evaluation December 25, 2013 One of the arguments in my paper states that “when both parents are in the home with the child every day, that child has more stability.” According to Professor Paul Amato of Pennsylvania State University, who recently conducted a research, he wanted to know the difference between children raises in two parent house hold verses one parent house hold. His research proved that “Children from single parent families have “more behavioral problems, more emotional problems, and lower levels of school engagement (that is, caring about school and doing homework).” This argument is informal http://www.families.com/blog/children-benefit-from-two-parent-families Then my next argument stated that “when single mothers are raising children without the father in the home children are being disciplined less.” Therefore I done some research and found that according to (Campbell, 1993) “Not only do fathers enforce gender norms more than mothers, they do so more strongly on boys than girls. For “most men…an effeminate son is far more worrying than a tomboy daughter. The father places heavy emphasis on the avoidance of feminine behaviors, rather than on the active encouragement of masculine ones.” Fathers’ own “masculinity” influences boys’ development in ways that are unclear at best.”166 Even though I have some evidence that proves my argument, this is still an informal fallacy because not all children of single mother behave...

Btk Killer

...into this world on March 9, 1945. After his birth in Pittsburg, Kansas, the family moved shortly thereafter to Wichita, Kansas. As a child, Dennis seemed to be a normal kid with no special interests that could be perceived, by his surrounding society and family, as abnormal or perverted. Little they all knew about what was going on in his fantasies and in his privacy. The young boy Rader was an average student at his elementary school and through his school years he stayed mediocre with weak grades. Dennis has been described by people who knew him back then, as a well-mannered lone wolf who wasn’t really interested in staying socially active. In 1966, Dennis joined the U.S air force and served them for four years. He married Paula Dietz in 1971, shortly after his homecoming, and the two of them eventually had two children, Brian and Kerri. Rader earned an associates degree in electronics in 1973 and started his studies at Wichita State University the same year. It was about to take him an additional six years to earn a degree at the university, and all he had to show for it was C minus or D level grades. Dennis Rader lived a pretty normal life, seen from the perspective of an outsider, and after being let go by the air craft manufacturing company he worked for, in 1973, he got a job with ADT Security and was an employee there for 14 years, learning everything there was to know about alarm systems. Later in his life, Dennis got increasingly devoted as a member of the Christ...

Conduct Disorder

...Description and Behaviors of the Disorder Conduct disorder is described as a child or adolescent who has experienced abuse in the past or is presently experiencing it and is starting to show one or all of the following behaviors: impetuous behavior, drug use, and criminal activity (A.D.A.M., 2011). Other behaviors that might start to show include: aggression to people and animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness, lying or stealing, and violation of rules (AACAP, 2012). Diagnosing As stated in the DSM-IV by the American Academy of Family Physicians, there are an abundant amount of things that could fit the criteria for conduct disorder. Some examples are a person who bullies people or animals, has a weapon that could seriously harm someone or something, has forced someone into sexual activity, has destroyed other people’s property, has shoplifted, stays out even though parents say not to, runs away from home, and many more (AAFP, 2001). Other forms of diagnosing include obtaining a detailed history of the child’s behavior which is provided by anyone who comes in contact with that child, just observing the child, or even conducting psychological tests (Hopkins). There are two subtypes of conduct disorder. The first one is childhood onset and the second is adolescent onset. Between the two of these, the childhood onset is by far the worst one. Childhood onset is labeled as the child having at least one conduct disorder behavior before they reach the age of ten. In most cases...

The Impact of Divorce on Children

...The Impact of Divorce on Children Lisa Greatwhite Liberty University PSYC 210-D07 Abstract Compared to forty years ago the divorce rate has increased at an alarming rate. Leaving the children torn and confused about their lives before and after. Children that where once seen as resilient are now seen as vulnerable. There is a vast amount of research that supports how children are affected before, during and after their parents’ divorce. Some of the issues that impact children can cause short-term psychological issues. Leaving those children that are affected to act out in various ways, from regressing backward in the developmental process to psychosocial well-being as it relates to academic performance. Long-term effects for children that result from divorce remain present throughout life. The adult child of divorce may carry unresolved issues into their own relationships. Sex Education Being Taught in Schools

...Samuel Lawrence Professor Eidson English 1101 April 25, 2013 Sex Education in Schools Sex education is a broad term used to describe education about human sexual activity, sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse, and other aspects of human sexual behavior. Although some form of sex education is part of the curriculum at many schools, it remains a controversial issue in several states. Ignorance regarding sexual matters has resulted in 65 percent of all teens having sex before their senior year and 9.1 million of the 19 million Americans who get an STD in a year are teenagers or between the ages of 15 and 24 (“Teen Sex Statistics”). There is no better place than in a biology class or a special sex education class to inform children of the importance of having planned families; consequently, these classes can reduce teenage pregnancies and much physical suffering caused by AIDS or other serious sexually transmitted diseases. It should never be left to parents because, in many cases, they cannot properly inform their children on the subject of sex education. Sex education must be taught in schools because it will help to prevent STDs from being transmitted, especially among teens, it will help prevent teenage pregnancy, and will help prevent pre-mature sex, which can damage the body from an early stage in life. Sex education does not only talk about sex. It also teaches about reproduction and sexual health. A lot of parents do not support the fact that sex education should...

Bricks, Epithets, and Other Hurtling Projectiles

...Bricks, Epithets, and Other Hurtling Projectiles My frustrations churned about in my mind. Pulling two furious twelve year olds apart, wrestling a homemade shiv from a 13 year old, chasing after runaway children, dodging tossed plastic chairs, and getting hit in the chest with a brick during a single day was just as horrendous as it sounds. Today was the day our supervisor had warned us about at our orientation, where all the kids are tired, cranky, unresponsive, and ready to go home. This was the day where the kids would be especially rowdy and try to push the team leaders away. Even in spite of Jamir’s warning, my two other team leaders and I were still not prepared. Our every waking moment was dedicated to taking care of the kids. We woke up at 6 am to go to a meeting to discuss our responsibilities for the day. After a brief breakfast with the other camp counselors, we divvied up who was going to man each station. We had mountain-boarding, arts and crafts, rock climbing, swimming, going to the lake, and various other activities to attempt to entertain the kids long enough throughout the day to completely tire them out by bed time. After the activities were introduced, it was time to go wake up the children. In the first few days, the kids would be up and full of energy by the time we returned to the humble decrepit teepees. The vigor they displayed was inspiring to us counselors, yet wearisome at the same time. They were already extremely hyper even before they received...

Broken Family

...enough to handle changes in their lives. The impact of this turn of events in a family’s life is more devastating on the children. Not only that it is painful for them on that moment to hear the news that their parents are getting a divorce. But the worst that can happen is the long term effect that can eventually ruin their future. In most cases, usually one parent keeps custody of his/her children. But despite of that, the thought that they are no longer complete seem unacceptable. Here are some effects of a broken family on children: 1. A broken home can make a child insecure. Insecure in a sense that he no longer had a complete family he can call his own. For a child’s mind, a family is composed of a father, mother and children. And living without either his father or mother will create fear and insecurities in him. This feeling of insecurities will even trigger if he is around his friends who are living a normal, complete and happy life. This is especially true in school events where the parents’ presence are required. There are plenty of school activities that involves the parents and seeing scenes like these will even make him feel ashamed of his family situation. 2. The insecurities, self-doubt and lack of confidence in a child can eventually make him uninterested in school. More often, those who are out of school are products of a broken home. 3. Sometimes a child’s reaction on his parents’ announcement of a divorce is not visible. He...

As you applaud and cry out “Cheers!” you may think back to your own proposal and it may have happened. Joy and love overwhelms you and you may even tear up a little. A cause for celebration by anyone’s idea, then as you walk by you discover the bride is actually only a ten year old girl. Does this change your view on it? Do you still have those same feelings, or does something more like disgust register in your heart? Recently in the past few years there has come about requests from advocates and groups to change the classification of pedophilia. Currently it is listed as a mental disorder in the American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Certain groups are of the opinion that it is not a disorder but a valid sexual preference, such as heterosexuality or homosexuality and that by denying the equal opportunity rights of individuals to seek solace in a relationship regardless of age the government is infringing upon the constitutional rights afforded these individuals. It is their contention that it is not harmful in any long term period to engage in consensual physical...

Food Deserts

...When I was younger, it was normal to see people carrying their groceries back home from the neighborhood grocery store. Each man, woman and child carried a bag on their trek home. I was one of those people, the grocery store was two blocks away, convenient and had the fruits and vegetables my family needed to prepare good meals. Now, neighborhood grocery stores that provide affordable healthy foods are far and few in between. Along with the issue of not having quality grocery stores available to low income neighborhoods; can we really say that food deserts are the main cause of poor nutrition and diets in urban and rural areas? Indianapolis the city where I live ranked number one as the worst city for limited access to healthy food. Food deserts have become a big problem in low income communities largely due to the lack of grocery stores. These desert areas are short on healthy food providers, and heavy on local quickie marts, and explain the link between hunger, poverty, and obesity, in low income communities. Innovative solutions to this problem include supporting a petition for the Food Deserts Act Bill, bring fresh produce and healthy affordable snacks to the local quickie marts, and start education programs on buying and cooking healthy foods. If the people can’t get to the healthy foods we have to find a way and help bring the food to them. (Brundage-Moore,5 2016) ...

...moral functioning As citizens of the United States, we are extremely fortunate to live in a democracy, and more specifically, a society that upholds egalitarian and meritocratic ideals. As a nation, we have fought wars and faced internal struggles in order to establish this system and champion these values. Within the last two centuries we have abolished slavery, given women the right to vote, and desegregated schools. In more recent years the movement towards equal opportunity has been advanced even further; public and private schools have increased financial support for economically disadvantaged scholars, and affirmative action programs have been developed as yet another means of combating inequities. It would seem that as a society, we are moving towards our moral ideal of equality for one and all. And yet, disparities remain. Race continues to be inextricably linked to socio-economic status and education level, with certain racial and ethnic groups, such as Caucasian- and Asian-Americans reaping more societal advantages on average than others, including African-Americans and Latinos. Women remain under-represented in many prestigious and lucrative fields, such as engineering and business, despite seemingly equal access to opportunity. And a significant wage gap continues to exist between such historically disadvantaged groups and more privileged groups, even when differences in education and experience are controlled for. Although we...

Media Control

...is a feature found in most societies, with men generally being in a more dominant position in society than women. Men have traditionally been seen in a wide range of active and creative roles – as warriors, hunters, and workers, as political leaders or successful business executives, as scientists, engineers, inventors, and great artists. Women have traditionally been seen as housewives and mothers confined to the home and caring for their husbands and children. Even when working outside the home, women's jobs often seem to be an extension of their caring role in the home, looking after others as receptionists, secretaries, nurses, teachers, and social workers. Are these differences simply an extension of the biological make-up of males and females, or are they a product of the ways that males and females are brought up in society? (Nature vs. Nurture) SEX AND GENDER • Sex: (whether someone is male or female) refers to the natural or biological differences between men and women, such as difference in genitals, internal reproductive organs, and body hair. • Gender: (whether someone is masculine or feminine) refers to the cultural, socially constructed differences between the two sexes. It refers to the way a society encourages and teaches the two sexes to behave in different ways through socialization. • Gender role: is the pattern of behavior and activity which society expects from individuals of either sex – how a boy/man or girl/woman should...
