According to Elizabeth Scott’s “Is Music a Good Tool For Health?,” music affects the body and mind and is a helpful tool for us to improve our health. Furthermore, music therapy is a growing field of health care using music as a therapeutic tool. Many hospitals take on music therapists in order to help with mental and physical illness. The author concludes music is a good tool for health, and I strongly agree with the author when she claims that music influences the body and mind in many ways. Most importantly, I believe that music is a good tool to help the body in staying healthy. The author stated in her article that “Breathing and heart rate may be affected by the changes music can bring.” That is to say, if we listen to the slow rhythm of music, our breathing and heart rate will slow down. This can mean both breathing and heart rate can be adjusted by the alterations of music. For example, we can find that music is used to control breathing and heart rate in order to stay calm like a meditation. Breathing is an important factor for people who practice meditation and meditation music is performed to help them. According to the article, music helps with pain management and eases muscle tension. I have experienced the moment of relaxation response when I went to the dental office. While lying on the examination table, I was very nervous. But I released my nervous tension soon because there was a slow jazz groove. Relaxing the muscles or parts of the body can relieve us of pain. As a result, music is closely related to our health and the body is affected by it.

Another reason why I agree with the author on that idea is because music is really helpful to bring more positive moods when I am under stress. As mentioned in the article, “Music can also be used to bring a more positive state of mind, helping to keep depression and

...Hawa Diallo 094010 09/16/2013 pr: wiseman The teenage years Teenagers have no responsibilities which is one of the main reasons that make them happy. As a teen they don’t have to think about how to make a living because their family helps them, that gives them time to enjoy themselves. In my own experience and the observation of others I believe that the teenage years are the happiest time of a person life. Most teenagers depend on their parents which give them no responsibilities and give them all the time to have fun They also don’t have any extra stress from the work place because they don’t have a job or a boss to deal with, they also don’t have to pay any bills, All they have to do is to go to school and that is only in the morning so they have the rest of the day for themselves to hang out with friends, play games or do their hobbies in other words they can do whatever they want and that make them happy. Teenagers who don’t have responsibilities have time to be alone and ponder about their future and dream about how they want their life be and all the opportunities they have ahead of them. That makes a person happy. Teenagers are also tolerated by adults they allow them make mistakes because they think their mind are not mature enough to think about the consequences of all the wrong things that they do. That remind me of myself as an teenager I used to do a lot of things without thinking about the consequences like sneaking out at...

Liberali Master Business and Economics, Specialization Marketing Erasmus School of Economics Rotterdam, January 22, 2013 Diagnosis The management team of Polyphonic is entering a market, which is currently facing permanent changes and a lot of pressure. Rapid technological changes, like the development from CD to DVD and movements towards digital downloading, forces recording companies to adapt their business models consequently. In addition, the music industry is facing negative annual unit sales growth in their most important markets: North America, which accounts for 41% of global music sales, showed a decline in demand of enormous 10.4 % in 2002. The European market, which is the second most important market, also showed a negative trend in most regions. This situation puts a lot of pressure on the recording industry: Funds have to be allocated wisely and it cannot be afforded to waste and risk any money. In an industry, where the average success rate is approximately 10% and where a lack of tools to measure the potential of a song/artist efficiently is immanent, the task of not wasting money is a difficult one. The industry has to rely on the feelings, ears, guts and experience of its producers. The most popular scientific alternative currently available is the so-called “call-out research”. Depending on...

Discourse Community (Musician)

...Being a musician has really enlightened me with the motivation to put the effort in making and playing great music with others or by myself. Music is a form of expression in which many emotions can be shown from happiness, depression or rage. Music gives people the chance to express themselves without using words of their own and instead through emotional music or just simply a great song they love. Musicians without question successfully manifest Swale's characteristics of a discourse community. When it comes to musicians, setting goals is the first step to achieving success. If musicians don't know exactly where they want to go, then how can they know which paths will lead them there? Music has been alive since the beginning of time basically. Mankind in general used many forms of sound like rocks in the stone age, medieval times used wind instruments like flutes or a recorders, and the renaissance era used string instruments such as Violins or Piccolos . Music has many types of genres to this day from jazz, rock, country, classical, and many more. Every group around the world has some sort of music that suits themselves whether it is classical music, rock or country. The great thing about music is that its all opinionated, what's good music considered to someone might be completely terrible to another. The most important thing is that the music comes first; music makes the musician, not the other way around. When musicians play...

A Critical Review of “Developing Critical Thinking and Assessment in Music Classrooms”

...Pawitra C. A Critical Review of “Developing Critical Thinking and Assessment in music classrooms” As many American students have a difficulty to reach a goal of testing standard makes music teachers are required to add the reading and writing skills in their classrooms. Maria Stefanova has provided some options to solve this problem in the article called “Developing Critical Thinking and Assessment in music classrooms”. It was published in May, 2011 by American String Teacher. In the article, she presents five classroom strategies to fill the gap between music and literacy classes. The first strategy is a prior step of the class which requires teachers to survey the students about their interest and background, while the second one could be done at the end of the class as an “exit ticket”. The next two are tactics which conceal the knowledge behind the performances and inviting a musician as a guest to classroom. The last one is to ask students to record their homework constantly. The author says that “[these strategies are] not only strengthening music instruction, but also to develop active thinking and assessment tools in the music classroom” (Stefanova, 2001). Most of the strategies are agreeable, however, I have a different point of view in some issues. Maria (2011) says that it is important for teachers to know more about their students’ interest and background to help them improve their skills, especially for new students. It is better to use written form of survey...

Intellecutual Property Rights

...itself with the music industry as an example, it is important to first state the economic benefits and costs of intellectual property rights as a whole, as this will be the basis in which one will examine intellectual property rights in the music industry. Music in Education

...The Value of Music in Basic Education “Music happens to be an art form that transcends language.” Herbert Jeffrey Hancock, famed American musician, defined music’s transcendental nature very aptly. Music is now widely recognized as a learning medium, an educational tool, and a means of expressiveness of creativity. Modern education emphasizes the importance of using learning methods that will effectively teach children having a variety of learning needs. The old “one size fits all” education system is rapidly being overcome by a more flexible and welcoming system that caters to each child’s individual learning needs. Elementary education is the first level of learning children are exposed to so it is imperative that their foundation is concrete and long lasting. Contrary to rote memorization techniques of the past, modern teaching techniques let children learn at their own pace. In some cultures inclusion of music as a learning element from an early age is not an alien concept at all, e.g. in ancient Indian, Chinese, and even African American cultures. It has been a part of everyday cultural and religious learning for young children. In his paper “The History and Development of Multicultural Music Education as Evidenced in the Music Educators Journal, 1967-1992”, Terese M. Volk sheds light on how music educators were initially encouraged to adopt a multicultural music perspective and include all kinds of music in their curriculum. The paper describes in detail the struggle...

Also data mining tools can help organize data to clarify any patterns found, this allows for more accurate and reliable findings. There are many different types of patterns that can be found with data mining that could be useful to stores, such as what products are often sold together or what products are sold best in cretin areas. There are some different tools used when data mining some examples would be classification tools, clustering analysis tools and association rules discovery. Before these tools for data mining were used the way people used to find information was with hypothesis verification, this technique would find information based on what the user’s hypothesis which limited how effective this tool was (Ramsey). Classification tools are the most commonly used in data mining, these tools have the ability to try and difference between objects or actions. An example of this would be if a company wants to know what part of their advertisements their customers liked best the classification tools would find information in classifications related to that (Keating). This would give the company useful information about what advertisements should be used in the future. Also there is clustering analysis tools, these tools are powerful and have the ability to group products together that naturally fall together. This type of data mining is...

Hip Hop Objectification

...How Music Treats Women Madonna and Don Mclean sang about “the day the music died.” While music hasn’t died, it has certain changed. Music has been commercialized, and it has become quite the profitable business. Gone are the days of artistic expression. They’ve given way to the era of the bottom dollar. This music industry is dominated by men. The artists, managers, and executives are all mostly males. They target other males as their primary consumers, and everything revolves around that fact. The easiest way to market a product is with sex, and since these industry’s power players target male consumers, they use women as cheap sexual marketing tools. The music industry promotes the objectification of women because they are used to sell a product with their sexual appeal. While the majority of the earth’s population is female, most people in positions of influence are actually men. For years, females have been forced to keep silent in a male-dominated world. Jennifer Mclune states in her article “Unlike men, women in hip-hop don’t speak in a collective voice.”(1) Women have very little voice in the music business, and few females wield any real power. The industry is full of male power players including most producers and composers. A heavy hitter in the hip hop world is Rapper Jay Z. He’s been around for several years, and he’s sold plenty of records. Jay Z also has his own clothing line and owns a sports representation agency. Needless to say, this man is at the top of...
