Quote 1: “The branches of the trees looked as if they were holding hands and bowing their heads in prayer.”
Reflection: This quote exhibits the theme of nature and nature's relation to imagery. This quote was dedicated to the aftermath of ishmael's first fight against the rebels. It is saying the trees looked like they were praying and mourning the war surrounding them. I think this quote really adds to the great imagery throughout the story. I picture trees lined one by one gracefully holding hands and make grim facial expressions. This quote also shows the reocurring theme of folk lor in the African culture.
Quote 2: “It was the corporal; he was saying something that I couldn't understand . His mouth moved and he looked terrified.”
