Ish’s Home
Ish’s home is not a set place “as he still thought of it” before, because he no longer values the various houses he sleeps in. As Ish explores his surroundings, he finds almost every house he comes upon abandoned. He travels from place to place, rarely returning, sleeping wherever he pleases, not “hesitat[ing] before the locked doors” (15) of the houses. These homes no longer have any value to Ish. As the lights slowly fade away Ish feels the “light of knowledge” (91) and values of the old world fading away. Ish no longer needs to follow the rules and morals set by civilization, and no longer needs a set home. Throughout Ish’s travel, Princess has become a loyal companion.
