The reign of President Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines has changed the whole country from underdeveloped country to developed country. Through his 20 years as the most powerful man in the Philippines, he has imposed discipline and order among the Filipino citizens and thus results to a good economic state and the Philippines felt the progress and ranked as the most developed country in the South East Asia. But as President Marcos was pulled down by the power of the 2% of the Philippines population back then, the following years has also pulled down the country’s status and labelled again as developing country or 3rd world country.
Being labelled as a 3rd world country, surely there are a lot reasons why the Philippines went down from the top of the mountain down where it’s other fellow countries in the South East Asia have progressed and become today as one of the progressed countries and left the Philippines from where it ended after President Marcos’ fall. There are lots of contributing factors why the Philippines fell and never felt the forward motion of the economy. From the corrupt government officials, through the absence of justice, the Philippines really struggled to overcome these obstacles to obtain peace and sovereignty through the years.
1st reason why the country that has 1,107 islands that can be found in South East Asia has been stuck in the level of the underdeveloped stage is because the people in it lack discipline. In a different setting, if a group that has a good leader but has a undisciplined members, surely the group will encounter problems along the way and might have difficulty finishing or getting the job done. To give concrete examples and facts to support the claim that lack of discipline among Filipinos is one reason why the country never moved forward, just go to streets of Metro Manila where the

Stress in the Workplace and Safety Issues Among Nurses in the Philippines

...STRESS IN THE WORKPLACE AND SAFETY ISSUES AMONG NURSES IN THE PHILIPPINES Abstract Personality differences among employees can lead to a tense and less productive work environment. Differences in race, gender, religious conviction, sexual orientation, and age can cause fear and uneasiness among employees. These feelings are often associated with confusion or powerlessness. Diversity and sensitivity training can assist employees in embracing each other’s unique qualities. “To accept differences, we have to understand differences, and there is no better way to do this than to learn to communicate with people who are different than you” (Lieberman, 2007). When employees feel overwhelmed, they can lose self-confidence, become irritable or act withdrawn. This behavior directly impacts productivity, and work becomes less rewarding. J. Segal, R. Segal, Horwitz, Jaffe-Gi[ http://www.termpaperwarehouse.com/essay-on/Managing-Stress-In-The-Workplace/54320 In this article, work-related problems among a sample of nurses in the Philippines are described. Cross-sectional data were collected through a self-administered survey during the Philippine Nurses Association 2007 convention by De Castro, A.B, et al. during the Philippine Nurses Association 2007 convention. Measures included four categories: work-related demographics, occupational injury/illness, reporting behavior, and safety concerns. Approximately 40% of nurses had experienced at least one injury or illness in the past year...

Social Issues: Territorial Dispute in the West Philippine Sea

...Social Issues: Territorial Dispute in the West Philippine Sea In accordance to the requirements for Prelims in English 2 (ZEN112) Submitted by: Patiag, Jude Emmanuel V. Blancaflor, Jazmine Blanche C. Other countries think that the International Law does not apply to “Great Powers” such as China. China took the advantage of the country’s status of being a third world country, thinking that Philippines don’t stand a chance against China. The International Law equalizes both small and big countries. That’s why the government put the fate of the whole country in the Tribunal and the compulsory dispute resolution mechanisms of UNCLOS (Del Rosario, December 4, 2015). While the case is being processed in the Arbitral Tribunal, China finished building their structures in the Panatag Shoal. The structures that they built are artificial islands with lighthouses, and they will start colonizing it. Del Rosario predicted that the finalization of the case will be finished on May 2016, six months (6) from now (Del Rosario, 2015). The Philippine government believes that this arbitration will benefit everyone. For China, it will define and clarify its maritime entitlements. For the Philippines, it will clarify what is ours, specifically our fishing rights, rights to resources and rights to enforce our laws within the EEZ (Del Rosario, December 5, 2015). The thesis statement reports the status quo of the country (Philippines) towards its territory. Because of the territorial...

Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program as the Trending Issue in the Philippine Education

...Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program as the Trending Issue in the Philippine Education Christelle Jane C. Alto University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna Abstract This research paper discussed the reasons why Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program is seen as an inappropriate implementation in a developing country like the Philippines. The current status of the education in our country is declining. Few noticeable facts about our educational system are broad elementary education, limited secondary schools, and unstable collegiate education. We take pride in the fact that 30% of our annual budget is allocated for education, mainly elementary education. But beyond this level, the national government participation and support is diminishing sharply. The support from the national government is negligible. The main reasons why K+12 program is inappropriate to be implemented in the Philippines are the education budget shortage, poverty, and incompetent teachers. It can be concluded that the national government influences the capability of the Philippines to adapt to the implementation of K+12 program. The government must allocate more educational budget to be able to achieve quality education. Enhanced K+12 basic education system as the trending issue in the Philippine education Despite the necessity of improvement in quality education through implementing...

Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program as the Trending Issue in the Philippine Education

...A metaphor, as defined in our glossary, is a figure of speech in which an implied comparison is made between two unlike things that actually have something important in common. The word metaphoritself is a metaphor, coming from a Greek word meaning to "transfer" or "carry across." Metaphors "carry" meaning from one word, image, or idea to another. When Dr. Gregory House (in the TV series House, M.D.) says, "I'm a night owl, Wilson's an early bird. We're different species," he's speaking metaphorically. When Dr. Cuddy replies, "Then move him into his own cage," she's extendingHouse's bird metaphor--which he caps off with the remark, "Who'll clean the droppings from mine?" Calling a person a "night owl" or an "early bird" is an example of a common (or conventional) metaphor--one that most native speakers will readily understand. Let's look at some of the different ways a single conventional metaphor can be used. Conventional Metaphors Some metaphors are so common that we may not even notice that they are metaphors. Take the familiar metaphor of life as a journey, for example. We find it in advertising slogans: * "Life is a journey, travel it well." (United Airlines) * "Life is a journey. Enjoy the Ride." (Nissan) Alliteration The repetition of an initial consonant sound, as in "a peck of pickledpeppers." Adjective: alliterative. As J.R.R. Tolkien observed, alliteration "depends not on letters but on sounds." Thus the phrase know-nothing is alliterative, butclimate...

...In: Social Issues Climate Change Reaction Paper 1. CLIMATE CHANGE The Philippines has been considered as a highly vulnerable to current (i.e. natural disasters), as well as future climate-related risks due to its geographical location and physical characteristics. It lies along the Western Pacific Basin (a generator of climatic conditions such as monsoons, thunderstorms, Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone, typhoons, among others) making it a path of an average of 20 tropical cyclones annually, nine of which makes a landfall. According to Wikipedia, climate change is a change in the statistical properties of the climate system when considered over long periods of time. The term, however, sometimes used to refer specifically to climate change caused by human activity, as opposed to changes in climate that may have resulted as part of Earth's natural processes. The term climate change, hence, has become synonymous with global warming. Any scientist will acknowledge that earth’s climate has always been changing. Increasing emissions into the atmosphere of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (such as methane) have created the so-called “greenhouse effect,” leading to overall global warming. However, some studies would also say that the intensity of solar radiation that correlates positively with global warming, provides alternative view to the carbon dioxide-greenhouse interpretation. Scientists also believed (with media exaggeration) that sea levels will rise by several...

Philipines vs Malaysia on Sabah Claim

...Topic: Philippine vs. Malaysia on Sabah Claim Rationale of the study: Thinking of those possible controversial issues from the past that were not widely known regarding our country, we chose to focus on territorial matters; territorial disputes. Territorial dispute often refers to an opposition or contrasting of countries over a state of ownership in the land. Countries become as rivals for the sake of having a piece of land and contain the rights and power over it. This territorial issue is what our country had faced over a long period of time up to now. One of this is the Claim of Sabah between the Philippines and Malaysia which is what we are going to tackle onto our “Mystery in History”. Long ago, it is said that the Philippines and the island of Borneo, formed a land mass by means of the land bridges connecting the two areas. The North Borneo, now known as Sabah is confined to the Philippines. The Sulu inhabitants regarded it as “land below the wind” for it is located below the typhoon belt. Time came that the Borneo was separated from the Philippines due to lost of its land bridge. The two countries then fell under separate kingdoms usually called as sultanates. When the Spanish navy reached our shores, it influenced all the invaders to engage into different treaties with various sultans. One invader is the Malaysia. The main basis of the territorial dispute between the Philippines and Malaysia over Sabah is the different understanding and interpretation...
