Being in the medical market from 2005-2008, SciTronics has been forced to keep up with an ever-changing and highly competitive industry. For this reason I found it necessary to conduct an assessment of the company’s past and present performance. Our group’s objective was to assess the overall health and financial stability of SciTronics incorporated, to achieve this I implemented the Corporate Financial System Framework (See Appendix I) and calculated four groups of ratios: Profitability, Asset Management, Leverage and Liquidity. Assessing the Company’s Profits and Sales Growth First and foremost I looked at the company’s profitability ratios starting with sales growth from 2005-2008 (See Appendix D). Knowing how well the medical industry did during this period of time, it wasn’t a surprise to see that SciTronic’s sales growth had increased by 20.69 % compounded, increasing from $147,000,000 to $244,000,000. But this sector is facing severe problem in financing, regulatory aspects, access to non-financial inputs. Some recent trends show that Government policies have discriminated against small-scale enterprises. There is nothing wrong with a situation in which inexperienced entrepreneurs are unable to get institutional credit (Little, 1987). It shows that the relative decline of small-scale enterprises in most developing countries has been accelerated by the industrialization policies adopted in these countries. ANN-MARIE ROY Contact: aroy11@caledonian.ac.uk COURSEWORK STRESS STUDY ANN-MARIE ROY ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to investigate students’ perceived university coursework stress and whether the use of wishful thinking or problem-focused coping was related to anxiety and depression levels. The method of investigation was a four-part questionnaire. Participants were 81 Glasgow Caledonian University students. There were two hypotheses: 1) problem solving copers will score lower on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale. 2) Those high in perceived coursework stress and who reveal wishful thinking strategies will have higher anxiety and depression scores. A multiple regression revealed partial support for both hypotheses – problem strategies had no relationship to coursework stress but wishful thinking and anxiety were both positive predictors of stress; however, contrary to hypothesis 2 depression revealed a strong negative association with stress. The conclusion from this study is that wishful thinkers are also more likely to be anxious; problem focused copers are not anxious, depressed or stressed; stressed students do not suffer from depression.
