The current system deployed for the 2010 season by the Saskatchewan Provincial Parks and Campgrounds is the Online Reservation Administration System (ORAS) web portal. The system was designed with two distinct functions –for clients/campers to make reservation requests and for clients/campers who make successful reservations to make a payment online. The value of the current system provides to Saskatchewan Park’s services at least three-fold, for both Park Services and clients/campers. Firstly, the information clients/campers provide is stored in a database rather than in personnel email accounts. Because of this, a client’s pertinent information about the campsite selected and any other data supplied by the client allowed the park service a more informed way to service the client’s needs and provide for their expectations. Another benefit gained from using Online Reservation Administration System (ORAS) was it enabled analysis of the two different types of reservations (demand vs availability by date and campground) by looking at campers’ data and payment information. The third way the system adds value is that campers were able to make payments online, and this freed-up the park staff from spending so much time obtaining credit card payments for campsite reservations. The value this new system added to campers was efficiency and came in the form of automation. To remove any links in a long chain of events to procure a campsite lease is, in itself, value added.
