...having what appears to be a great time. I spend my weekends working and I’ve never been much of a partier so it’s hard to not to see those images and feel almost jealous because it all looks so glamorous from the outside. I quickly remember, however, that the risks, consequences and realities of that night would not be worth the few “cute” pictures they got out of it. Media only shows you one, very biased, much edited version of something and it’s our job as the consumer to realize that. For many people, our youth mainly, it’s very difficult to see past what is at the surface of media. Music in pop culture ranges in topics from sex, drugs to alcohol, with very little in between. All you hear on the pop radio stations are songs about sexualizing women and getting messed up with the use of alcohol and/or drugs. Alcohol is glamorized in every form of media there is, so it’s not shocking that we have such high rates of underage drinking and alcohol related deaths. There isn’t enough proper education on alcohol and everywhere you turn there are movies, shows and songs depicting binge drinking and partying. The problem I have with a lot of these movies or shows is that they talk about the party itself but never the safety of it. You never see in movies or shows a designated driver for the night, they rarely even explain how the characters get home. In almost everything it’s just assumed that they get home, or the next scene will just be the next day with no explanation. You also rarely...

...Although you can’t be on the streets after ten o'clock in Dierks, Arkansas, some cities in America does let them wander around the streets that late. First and foremost, cities does not want people wander around the streets because hideous things can happen on the streets if you let them walk around them. Shootings can be going on during the night if you don’t have a time when you need to get off the streets during the night. Horrible things can go on during the night if cities and towns don’t put limited time so you won’t be on the streets during the night. In addition, people do not want curfews because they think they can be on the streets whenever they want too, and they think it’s not fair that there’s a curfew on everything they do...

...If you love NCIS Los Angeles as much as I do, you probably have set aside time on Sunday night to watch the popular TV show. Knowing that Agent Callen, Hanna and the rest of the crew will be out solving crime in Los Angeles (or around the world) you have no worries. It’s going to be a great show and the feeling of satisfaction after the show lingers for hours. Rarely do I like discussing negative things about TV shows. It’s just not polite. Every crew, from the actors to the caters, pour their souls into each episode. What is offered to the viewers should be respected and appreciated. Yet, this complaint about NCIS: Los Angeles is impacting thousands of viewers. I’d be doing fans a disservice if I didn’t ask what can be done to fix this situation....

...Did you know that those who don’t know history are the ones who are most likely going to repeat it? “Night”, a book about the Holocaust, written by Elie Wiesel, can help us learn more about what really happened. Many people think that “Night” should be banned. I, on the other hand, think that “Night” shouldn’t be banned. One of the ways that we can prevent something from happening twice, especially if it's bad, is to learn about it. By learning about it, you learn that the mistakes made in the past were wrong and you then understand not to make the same mistakes. The quote “The story of how we hate can take over a society” tells us that because of how one person thinks, it can affect an entire group of people to think the same way. People...

...Why don’t I sleep? It’s a question I’ve been asking myself for a while now. I’m sure there are many reasons why, but here are 3 enormous reasons of why I think I don’t sleep at night. I have a lot of bad habits in my life but I think the worst ones I have are before I fall asleep at night. I used to be able to sleep well at night that changed after I started listening to music right before I fell asleep. I think that since I listened to violent music before I went to bed every night it really disrupted my sleep schedule. I remember one night where I was listening to music on my iPod before I went to bed. I had to get really early in the morning, around 4am to go to the gym with my trainer to work out. I remember listening to heavy metal before I tucked in for the night. Little did I know how much it was going to affect my sleep patterns and myself. I finally went to bed around 11 30pm, the whole night I was tossing and turning in my sleep. When I finally woke up around 4am to work out I felt horrible because I didn’t get enough sleep. Listening to music before I go to bed is a really terrible habit that I have and it’s really hard to break. After a while you get used to it and its almost like second nature to listen to music before you fall asleep at night. It can really disrupt how you wake up in the morning as well. I remember one time where I had to wake up early in the morning to go take a test. Since I had been listening to music the whole night it really threw me off...

...Beauty By: Lord Byron (George Gordon) She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o’er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling-place. And on that cheek, and o’er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent! "She Walks in Beauty" is a poem written in 1814 by Lord Byron. One of Lord Byron’s most famous, it is a lyric poem that describes a woman of much beauty and elegance. TITLE: What’s Up With the Title? We usually refer to this poem simply by its first line, "She Walks in Beauty." But the first line does more than introduce the subject of the poem – a beautiful woman. The first line of the poem (and therefore the title) is an apparently conscious echo of the famous sonnet by William Shakespeare, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" (Sonnet 18). Except, of course, instead of comparing the beautiful woman to a "summer's day," Byron compares her to "night." So he's not just setting up a contrast between night and day, he's also setting up a contrast between himself and Shakespeare...
