Dorfman Pacific
There are a large variety of issues facing how the operations of Dorfman Pacific. Although in the past few years the issues were thought to be related more on the size of the warehouse we find this to be untrue. These issues peak especially around the times when the seasonal rush happens. Due to the lack of a good IT info structure the numerous divisions of their warehouse begin to suffer not only on an inventory but a personnel level. Often the employees find it hard to sort as well as find products and there is a large amount of confusion as to where inventory is located.
To help organize this there must be a system that can better track the inventory as well as keep track of supplies during the busier seasons. Tracking the amount of product that is moved during peaking seasons can aid us in being better prepared in the years to follow. Implementing a wireless system will be the first step in this process. Also connecting all of the departments from ordering, shipping, inventory, and the labor aspect could cut cost and allow room for future growth. By using hand held inventory trackers connected to the network we can keep track of everything needed in the warehouse.
Although there were a few issues with the wireless due to the construction of the building we were able to provide full coverage throughout the entire warehouse to allow the use of hand held devices to help track the inventory. We also were able to get all of the different departments on the same page while using Texas Barcode to track inventory efficiently. All of these systems combined have shown a 30% drop in labor costs as well as a considerable rise in profit. The labor reduction alone has saved so much revenue that this system will pay for its self in no time.
