...IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY. HOW DID CANADA'S MOST SUCCESSFUL TECHNOLOGY COMPANY COME TO THIS? Good friends defend us when we're in trouble. Not just in our personal lives, but in the corporate world too. When a company is struggling, its business partners support it-or, at the very least, refrain from trashing it. Not so with Hugh Bradlow, chief technology officer for Australian telecom Telstra. At a speaking engagement in Hong Kong in June, Bradlow ruminated on the fate of Research In Motion, a key partner for his company. According to an industry trade publication, Bradlow told the crowd that if he were running RIM, he would "go to the 43rd floor and find a window." He went on to say the most likely outcome for RIM is a sale. A Telstra spokesperson told Canadian Business that Bradlow "immediately apologized unreservedly" for his remarks, but the damage was done. RIM has fallen so far that not even its carrier partners can resist making jokes at its expense. And RIM keeps giving its detractors more fodder. On June 28, the company announced an incredibly bleak set of earnings, including its first quarterly loss in more than seven years. BlackBerry shipments plunged 41% from the year before. Nearly one-third of its workforce-5,000 employees-will be laid off. CEO Thorsten Heins delivered one more bombshell, too: BlackBerry 10, the operating system that will supposedly revive the company, will be delayed yet again, until early 2013. RlM has experienced an incredible and bewildering...

...previous cumulative of $300, 000 plus the first year for the cash flow of $500: -$300,000 + $42,573=-$257,427. In comparison the cumulative for the second year is the previous cumulative of -$257,427 plus the inflow of cash from the second year of $42,573, resulting in –$214,854. Therefore the calculations of payback occurred during the third year. If the $40,584 of inflows comes in evenly during the third year, then the exact payback period can be found as follows: Applying the same procedure to the other two alternatives (Project High-Tech and Broker) you are able to find the payback period for them in about one and one-half years and just less than six years respectively. Since these two alternatives are being scoped for possible alternatives, the project that includes technology would be accepted but current project would be rejected. If the projects were mutually exclusive, High-tech would be ranked over Broker and Current because High-Tech...

...Website Security Paper Instructor: Class: CMGT/441 On June 19 2013 the popular social media website LinkedIn had a DNS hijack which affected all users of the website. According to “Tech Crunch” (2013), ‘’Shortly after the outage began, App.net co-founder Bryan Berg wrote on his blog that the site’s DNS may have been hijacked–in other words, its domain name was redirected to a different IP address”. Often this is the result of an attacker compromising the account used to manage DNS servers. One of the many flaws in LinkedIn’s security design is lacking SSL which means that if you visiting the website while the hack was occurring the cookies would have been sent over the network wire in plain text format and the hijackers would now have access to the payload data. SSL should be used anywhere where communicating information that should not be public. It is a very dangerous assumption to believe that no-one is listening to traffic between user’s computers and the remote server the hackers or black hats do not need direct access to the router it’s a simply listening of the network traffic and the information can be readily available. Without using SSL for sensitive communications, a single machine with a virus on a coworker’s computer is all that is needed for stealing the information of a network and then the compromises truly begin to happen. The availability of an authentication session cookie in an unencrypted form would allow an attacker to gain full access to a user's...

...2015) Determining how an organization will go about the actual process of recruitment for a job position requires intricate planning and foresight. For this week’s assignment, a recruitment plan will be developed, discussing recruiting strategies and plan for action to fill the position of Product Manager at Tech Data Corporation. GOALS FOR ATTRACTION, SPEED & TIME FRAME The first three steps in the planning phase are to define Tech Data’s strategic goals for the recruiting process, decide how broadly it will recruit and consider organizational administrative issues. These must be decided on and finalized before executing the plan to attract applicants. In relation to the position of Product Manager, one must consider the person/job fit and intertwine that with what types of applicants are most likely to have the required KSAOs. Remember, the techniques for recruiting should closely match the organization’s culture and values (Heneman et. al., 2015). In this case, Tech Data is a corporation that attributes much of its success to “teamwork, partnership and being a respected presence in our communities”. In efforts to attract applicants with this person/job fit, Tech Data will strategically execute the plan for filling the position of Product Manager by diversifying external recruitment and will use today’s new technology and innovations to do so. ...What Should US Tech’s Sourcing Strategy be? US Tech is considering discontinue the cooperation with its primary product supplier: TaiSource. The two main reasons that drive the company for doing so are (1) reducing cost and broaden the market by collaborating with a new Chinese supplier; (2) eliminating the threat of a future strong competitor who knows almost everything about US Tech’s products. After carefully examining the entire situation, we hold that US Tech should find an alternative Chinese supplier to cooperate while keeping the relationship with TaiSource. Several aspects that US Tech needs to take into consideration are as follows: First of all, the company should carefully deal with the trusting relationship that formed between US Tech and TaiSource. Although the trusting relationship with suppliers is important, as Bruce said, we think that the exclusive and trusting supply relationship with TaiSource is vulnerable. Bruce K. Riggs argues that Greg, the chief global sourcing officer at US Tech, needs to realize that an exclusive supply relationship with TaiSource is outdated and may no longer help US Tech competitively. With hiring a new CMO, TaiSource shows a clear signal that they are willing to launch their own product in the near future. Once it decides to do that, TaiSource would be one of USTech’s biggest rivals. As Barry C. Lynn mentioned, although the relationship with TaiSource looked great on the bottom line, the result was to empower a new...

...Vanessa Castris Com 330 Written Assignment 6 After reading the articles provided I am thrown for a loop. These days it is so hard to go an hour tech free, never mind a full day. I have been in certain situations where I had no choice but to stay of my devices for the duration of but essentially it is a huge part of my life. I found myself calling these articles garbage after reading them and can’t give them full credibility. I do not think that it would ever be useful to me to go tech free for a day. I don’t blame any of my poor listening skills on technology. I do know a few people who are so obsessed with technology who literally are so focused on it they do not hear a thing. Maybe these extreme tech people could use a break but ultimately I think that these people would focus on something more heavily. I feel that even before all of this technology people still did not listen properly to each other. I think it is a human habit that we have to train ourselves out of. Think back to shows like the honeymooners, they portrayed a normal relationship of husband and wife who don’t fully listen to each other and they had no technology. The idea of not listening has existed forever. I do think that more face to face communication is good and helpful to increase your listening skills but that is only one step. I have found myself without a phone in my hand having a conversation with a friend and still not listening fully because of everything that was on my mind. I...

...The idea of the unknown is a very prevalent theme throughout Colum McCann’s novel, Let the Great World Spin, and is especially highlighted in the story about the tech guys in Palo Alto. ...proposing will delve into the distracted driving trend our technicians are faced daily. I have found an organization whose sole purpose is to make corporate driver’s safer. I think it is best if we use an external vendor to supply the training. The organization is NSC or the National Safety Council. I came across one of the instructors last year at a conference, and feel they will be a great asset. A little insight into this organization: “The nation's leading safety advocate for more than 100 years, the National Safety Council is a nonprofit organization with the mission to save lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the road through leadership, research, education and advocacy. Working to make the world measurably safer, NSC advances this mission by engaging businesses, government agencies, elected officials and the public to help prevent the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. – unintentional injuries The Council is data driven, relying on research to inform best practice solutions to safety issues. To make the greatest impact, NSC focuses on where the most preventable injuries and deaths occur - cell phone use while driving, teen driving, workplace safety, prescription painkiller use and safety in the community. As a catalyst for behavior change, NSC promotes April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month and June as National Safety Month.”(http://www.nsc.org) I will sit down and explore their curriculum and tailor it to our field...
