In this assignment I will identify leadership style, task and process behaviors. I was able to attend a meeting at church and diagnose the meeting as it had gone along. This meeting usually takes place at my church once a month. We have certain leadership that are in charge of this meeting and conduct the meeting in an orderly fashion. I have learned through this assignment that there are different styles of leadership. The leaders that I have examined are leaders that I look up to and respect and one day I can have the same quality of leadership that they have.
I was given the opportunity to observe a meeting that took place at my church. A group of the leaders were trying to decide where the next Men’s Fellowship would be held. The Associate Pastor was in charge of conducting the meeting and throughout the meeting I noticed that he took a democratic approach to his leadership style.
At times he left the topic open for discussion amongst the other members. When someone tried to suggest places that he felt were inadequate he would show examples of why it would not work instead of being openly critical. When he liked an idea he did a great job of using Task Leadership and elaborating on the idea more. When someone suggested camping he was able to show it could be a great experience to bond with the men of the church and at the same time being less costly than some other ideas.
He used the Process of Leadership when it came time to encourage the other members in the group who at times felt like their voice was not being heard. He was able to discern when someone wanted to speak but were being reserved. He would encourage everyone to give their opinion no matter how they felt others would perceive them. He controlled the meeting in a way that was effective in the end and also was able to give everyone a voice that was heard.
