...Over the years, there have been many brutal murders all over the world. One of the most horendous and bloodiest series of murders took place in England in the late 19th century by a mysertious man known as "Jack the Ripper." Between August and November 1888, the Whitechapel area of London was the scene of five brutal murders. All of the murders were taken place less than a mile apart from each other. On August 31, 1888, Jack the Ripper killed his first victim. Mary Nichols' dead body was found in Buck's Row Whitechapel at around 3am. Her throat was cut and her body was disemboweled. Her murder was just the start of Jack the Ripper's "regin of terror." On September 8, 1888, the body of another prostitute was discovered in the backyard on 29 Hanbury Street. It was less than a mile away from Buck's Row, where the previous murder of Mary Nichols had taken place just a week before. This victim was Annie Chapman. Jack the Ripper removed her womb. When she was found, there was a leather apron tied around her body. That was a clue to who the murderer might have been. The area was flooded with police officers, and since there hadn't been any murders for a few weeks, they thought that they had scared him off. Shortly after Annie Chapman's murder, Sergeant William Thicke arrested John Pizer. John was known in the area as "Leather Apron." However, John Pizer was able to provide proof that he was not apart of the murder of Annie Chapman or Mary Nichols. Then he was released and taken...

...We have come a long way from the days of Feudalism where Lords were land (fief) owners and the vassals were the common folk who provided a service to the Lord for use of the land, whether it is to serve in the military or other forms as requested. This was the way of life in medieval times, up until the 15th century (Hirst, 2012). From here, the transition began from Feudalism to the early stage Capitalism, where the ordinary people broke away from the Feudal system and owned property and the means of production as well as the resources to make and maintain wealth (Dictionary.com, 2012). England in the 1800’s was hard in comparison to today. The life expectancy for a man aged 20 in 1850 was 60.1 years compared to 76.7 in 2004 (Geoff Canyon's Appeal to Authority, 2009). This was mainly due to the living conditions and especially those in the poor area of East London, where animals not only shared the often over crowed living area with humans but also the human waste that was thrown onto the streets. Often those who lived in the bottom apartments lived close to if not in the stench, more so than those who lived multiple stories above the streets. With the pollution of human waste in the streets and the polluted River Thames from the sewage of the West End, no matter where you lived in the East End, you still had to walk through the rising filth. These living conditions were the main reason for the various outbreaks of diseases, sores and premature deaths during the 1800’s...

...There are many possible suspects in the Jack the Ripper case. Some suspects seem more probable than others, however. Based on information that has been obtained from what happened during the “Autumn of Terrors,” as many call it, there are many facts that seem probable about Jack the Ripper. The specific suspects that have been publicized fit some of these possible qualities and tendencies of Jack the Ripper, though none fit all the standards. A background in medicine along with a history of some sort of mental illness are likely characteristics of the Ripper. Also, he was most likely someone that was often seen around his victims long before their murders. Jack the Ripper was most likely someone with a background in medicine. At the very least, it is feasible he had more basic anatomical knowledge than the average citizen of his time. Based on autopsies and reports from medical officials who saw the bodies after the murders, it is evident that the Ripper was able to remove his desired organ without disturbing any surrounding areas too severely. Dr. Frederick Gordon Brown, the medical examiner who performed the post-mortem exam on Catherine Eddowes, also believed the murderer had medical knowledge based on the exam he performed on Eddowes’ body: “I believe the perpetrator of the act must have had considerable knowledge of the position of the organs in the abdominal cavity and the way of removing them. It required a great deal of medical knowledge to have removed the kidney...

...Whitechapel London, also known as the East End, was the scene of at least five gruesome murders in 1988 that were committed by a killer now famously known as Jack the Ripper. These murders took place in the height of transition from feudalism to capitalism and fueled by this, the East End was plagued with gross overcrowding, unemployment, and was a place of severe poverty and prostitution. Marxist theories of alienation and dialectical materialism help to explain how the rise of capitalism formed the case setting and supported The Ripper’s murders of five women. In the mid-nineteenth century, an influx of Irish and Jewish immigrants hit England and swelled the population, including that of East London (Kershen 2008). Whitechapel suffered gross overcrowding and an urban proletariat started to emerge (Rumbelow 2001). Housing and working conditions became worse and poverty led many people to alcohol, crime and violence and women were driven into prostitution as work was hard to find (Vaughan 2008). Many people were dependent on lodging houses for a place to sleep, and would only be admitted if they had four pence as payment. Those who did not have the money were left outside on the streets (Rumbelow 2001). The first of the official Jack the Ripper murders occurred in the early hours of 31st August 1988 (Rumbelow 2001). A woman later identified as forty-two year old Polly Nichols was found with her throat cut from ear to ear and when taken to the morgue and undressed by morgue...

The belief that these five crimes were committed by the same man is derived from contemporary documents that link them together to the exclusion of others. ...with a form of psychological gratification as the primary motive. The need for psychological gratification distinguishes serial killers from other types of murderers, who usually murder for things like profit or revenge. Because an element of psychological instability is involved in serial killing, many serial killers are committed to mental institutions if and when they are caught, reflecting a general belief that they are not of sound mind. While many people think of serial murder as a crime which emerged in the 20th century, it is actually quite ancient. Documents from places like China indicate that serial killers were operating well before the common era, and some particularly notorious serial killers like Erzsebet Bathory and Jack the Ripper date to periods before the 20th century. It is true, however, that the number of serial killings seems to have increased in the 20th century, perhaps due to increased population or social and cultural shifts. As a general rule, someone does not start out life as a serial killer. The progress from ordinary individual to serial killer may begin early in life, but it proceeds in stages, beginning with crimes like arson, progressing to animal abuse, and then moving into the realm of human abuse. The reasons why people develop into serial killers are not known, although many show signs of childhood trauma and abuse. Psychologists believe that all serial killers demonstrate some form of antisocial personality disorder, along with other...
