What do you think of when you hear the word hero? Do you think of a person in a cape or a superhero on cartoons or in movies? You may not know it, but heroes are all around us, but I believe to be a true hero you must have the qualities like Jackie Robinson, with his perseverance, commitment, and devotion.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Perseverance is continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition: the action or condition or an instance of persevering. Which is exactly what Jackie Robinson has. Jackie Robinson’s perseverance is just one of his many heroic qualities, but one of the most important qualities of his. His fame he received help people listen and respect him more. The respect he received helped people to see that there is no difference between the color of our skin. His devotion to the game helped people see that it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white. His team started to grow more fond of him and respect him more through his devotion and respect to his teammates and the game. Jackie received numerous awards for his courageousness to be one of the first African-Americans to play in the MLB. His devotion also made an impact on the end of segregation. People started to take down the “colored only” signs and started to respect everyone with the same respect. People also stood up for him more when he was put down. If you think about it Jackie Robinson is an American hero and should be remembered not only for his skill, but his impact on the end of segregation.
