...The British car manufacturer, Jaguar plc, has experienced a turnaround in profitability over the past four years. As a result of this recent success, the British Government has decided to return the company to the private sector through a public offering of the stock. Through an analysis of Jaguar’s profits over the past four years, it is apparent that the majority of their success can be attributed to the appreciation of the US Dollar. Like any multinational company, Jaguar plc, is exposed to exchange rate risk, and thus it is necessary to acknowledge this risk and appropriately hedge against it. Taking this into account, Jaguar must make strategic and calculated decisions to ensure that the company becomes more resilient to interest rate swings through growing it profits organically. Jaguar needs to mitigate its risk by implementing the proper hedge. We determined that a 50% forward hedge would be appropriate given the exchange rate in place. By using the historical data given, we were able to make forecast predictions for an income statement over a stretch of three years. The rolling hedge will provide a three-year time frame that will allot Jaguar sufficient time to implement its new company wide initiatives that are aimed at driving down costs. The first initiative is the implementation of lean techniques. This initiative will focus on increasing productivity through the identification and elimination of waste. Specifically, by decreasing the amount of inventory on...

In recent years, this plant was shuttered, and production moved to two locations: Castle Bromwich in Birmingham and Halewood in Liverpool. These two locations have shared the production of the various Jaguar models, including the XK, X-Type and S-Type, that help maintain the brand as a popular luxury car for buyers all over the world. Castle Bromwich is a very impressive facility with world-class plant and processes. Jaguar has completely refurbished three whole blocks in the factory. E-Block is the body construction facility...

Jaguar Cars, founded in 1922, is one of the world’s premier manufacturers of luxury saloons and sports cars. Land Rover has been manufacturing 4x4s since 1948. Its products have defined the segments in which they operate, being known for extraordinary strength and durability. Ford Motor Company acquired Jaguar in 1989 and Land Rover in 2000. In 2008, Tata Motors buys the two brands after ten months of negotiation for £1.15bi and merge then into one. ...A Strategic Analysis of the Jaguar X-Type April 30, 2003 Mark Ganaway Cindy Sammy Christopher Smith Executive Summary Jaguar has entered the low-price luxury segment with its new X-Type vehicle. Jaguar’s strategy is twofold: 1) Jaguar hopes to capture its traditional customers at a younger age (up to 20 years younger) and engender life-long loyalty to its brand. 2) Jaguar hopes to increase revenues and margins through an aggressive growth strategy. Jaguar has run into a few problems with its strategy including poor reviews for quality of the new X-type, production that far exceeded demand, and aggressive pricing that may adversely affect the brand image. However, the core strategy is sound, and we would like to recommend the following: • Maintain autonomy of Jaguar unit to ensure differentiation. • Continue to offer high value to price features while improving production problems to attract customers and leave a luxurious impression. • Pursue growth in line with demand to limit discounting and sales based on price. If these measures are enacted, Jaguar will be successful in increasing sales volume, attracting new, younger customers and maintaining its brand image. Introduction Towards the end of World War II, Sir William Lyons began building the first Jaguars. Since that time, the distinctively British automobile has been synonymous with style, elegance, and impressive performance engineering. In 1989, Jaguar was brought under the Ford Motor Company umbrella, and this...

...“Balboa” a short story by Sabina Murray AS YOU READ Pay special attention to descriptions of Balboa's relations with the Indians and the Spaniards. Write down any questions you generate during reading. Vasco Núñez de Balboa ascends the mountain alone. His one thousand Indians and two hundred Spaniards wait at the foot of the mountain, as if they are the Israelites and Balboa alone is off to speak with God. Balboa knows that from this peak he will be able to see the western water, what he has already decided to name the South Sea. He takes a musket with him. The Spaniards have been warned that if they follow, he will use it, because discovery is a tricky matter and he wants no competition. The day is September 25, 1513. Balboa ascends slowly. His musket is heavy and he would have gladly left it down below, but he doesn’t trust his countrymen any more than he trusts the sullen Indians. So he bears the weight. But the musket is nothing. He is dragging the mantle[1] of civilization up the pristine slopes, over the mud, over the leaves that cast as much shade as a parasol[2] but with none of the charm. Balboa is that divining line[3] between the modern and the primitive. As he moves, the shadow of Spain moves with him. Balboa steps cautiously into a muddy stream and watches with fascination as his boot sinks and sinks. He will have to find another way. Upstream he sees an outcropping of rock. Maybe he can cross there. He tells himself that there is no hurry, but years...

After foul play, on the part of the brother, the brother-in-law is left abandoned and injured on a rock. A jaguar finds the man and offers to take care of him. The man, who is initially afraid of the jaguar, reluctantly agrees and follows him to his lair. Upon arriving to the jaguar’s lair, the man sees that the jaguar’s wife is spinning. The jaguar’s wife questions her husband as to why he has brought a human to their lair to which her husband replies that the man will now be his companion and their son, and that she is to take care of him. The jaguar goes out to hunt and instructs the man to eat if he is hungry, suggesting eating a piece of tapir, which is cooking on the hearth. However, the jaguar wife says to the man to eat the raw deer instead. This causes tension between the man and the jaguar wife, who bares her claws to the man and he flees into the jungle the jaguar finds the man hiding in the jungle and coaxes him back to their lair and chastises his wife for frightening the man. The next day the jaguar goes out hunting, and again the man and the jaguar’s wife argue over what meat the man should eat. The man runs away again but this time the jaguar offers the man a solution. ...examples of keystone species which there could be predators, mutualists, and engineers. Since the prey numbers are low, the keystone predator numbers can be even lower and still be effective. Keystone mutualists are organisms that participate in mutually beneficial interactions, the loss of which would have a profound impact upon the ecosystem as a whole. Although the terms 'keystone' and 'engineer' are used interchangeably, which is better understood as a subcategory of keystone species. Out of all the keystone species in the world the one that I am most fascinated with is the jaguar. The jaguar is largely a solitary and opportunistic predator at the top of the food chain. It is a keystone species, playing an important role in stabilizing ecosystems and regulating the populations of the animals it hunts. The jaguar has been numbered as the near threatened in Central and South America. The jaguar acts as a keystone predator because of its widely varied diet, and they also help balance the mammalian jungle ecosystem with its consumption of 87 different species of prey. ...Panthera is a genus of large, wild cats in the mammalian family, Felidae, and includes the four, well-known living species of the lion (Panthera leo), the tiger (Panthera tigris), the jaguar (Panthera onca), and the leopard (Panthera pardus). These four extant cat species are considered unique in having the anatomical changes enabling them to roar. (New World Encyclopedia) The Panthera genus comprises about half of the seven extant species in the Pantherinae subfamily also known as the "big cats" family, the other species typically belonging to the genera Neofelis and Uncia, although taxonomy has been continually in flux. The name panther sometimes is used to designate collectively cats in this subfamily. (New World Encyclopedia) The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest felid species and a widely recognized symbol of wildlife conservation. Historically tigers inhabited much of Asia, including the regions between the Caspian and Aral Seas, southeastern Russia, and the Sunda islands. (H, 1987 )...

...Bronx Zoo: Jungle World Exhibit General Description: The Jungle world Exhibit at the Bronx Zoo was very interesting. If it wasn’t for this class I probably wouldn’t have ever went there, I am glad that I went because I saw a lot of interesting displays and learned a lot about animals that I have never really known about. My favorite display is the Rainforest display. The display was so real feeling. I saw animals such as ebony and silvered langurs, as well as tree kangaroos, fruit bats, black leopards, tropical birds, toads, and snakes. Jungle World had real plants and full grown trees and flowing water falls, and the only light source came from natural sun light that comes through windows in the ceiling. I learned that Jungle world contains about 90% of all the world’s species of plants and animals live there, but only about half are known to science. The sounds were incredible. The animals made the jungle sound so cheerful and alive. The Jungle was incredible. It was truly amazing to see all of the different animals, and how they all lived in close quarters and kept it alive. When I heard the gibbons singing that was beautiful, I saw how nature alone can make beautiful melodies and duets and flood the jungle with peace and serenity. Display: Description of the Asian Rainforest The Asian Rainforest display was the display that stuck out to me the most. I love the tropics and all of the exotic animals. The sights, sounds and steam...

...What is black, white, and yellow spotted that can run up to 45 miles an hour? Well at that speed you probably wouldn’t see much I admit but you also won’t see the African Wild Dog because it is one of the most endangered mammals. Also known by its scientific name Lycaon Pictus, meaning “painted wolf-life animal”. These 40 to 70 pound mammals range to be around 30 inches tall with their long legged, 4-toed paws. Mainly found in parts of Africa or more specifically the southern areas such the city of Mozambique. The African wild dog has been classified as a critically endangered species with an estimated population of 6000 according to World Wildlife Fund. The African Wild Dog is especially interesting when it comes to its unusual social system. These mammals rely on habitats such as deserts, grasslands, and forests to successfully hunt medium sized animals like gazelles. This way, they hunt together and guarantee themselves a meal most of the time. However, the African Wild Dog is to say the least a unique species you can come to find out through learning the biology, the threats it is facing and what is being done to prevent its extinction. The African Wild Dog is a very special species after learning the unusual social ways of the mammal. African Wild Dog reproduces at an average of about 10 pups, and after are taken care of by the mother for about 3 months according to Arkive.org. Within 16 to 24 the pups no longer are dependent. Traveling usually in packs of 10 no less...

...Dijon Miller Classification Essay 11MW 25 March 2013 The Jaguar Runway Every morning many students get out of bed asking the same question: “What am I gonna wear today?” First impressions mean everything in the world today and it makes finding the answer to this question is somewhat difficult. The campus is full of fully-dressed students that can be divided into three styles; the over-dresser, the casual dresser, and the anti-dresser. All of these styles can tell a lot about the type of students here at Southern University of Baton Rouge. The most noticeable of the three is the over-dresser and of course that is the way it is expected to be. They are the ones recognized right away; rocking the latest fashion that looks as though they came straight from the runway. The “designer” girls wear silk blouses, Calvin Klein jeans, and spiked, high-heeled shoes or boots. The guys wear Ralph Lauren shirts, jeans with a designer logo, and strands of gold showing at the neck of their shirt. Their choices of shoes lean toward the brand new Air Jordan’s or Nike Air Max. With the over-dresser it’s always about looking their best at any given moment; no matter if it is “Pretty Wednesday” or not. On Pretty Wednesday, everyone usually wears their business attire. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a guy in the cafeteria sporting a Giorgio Armani suit. People in this category like to have all eyes on them, and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, we must be aware of those who let the...

...super-luxury car while only 78 per 1000 did in US[2]. As the figure represents, there is a greater propensity to spend money on premium cars in China. A premium car represents a milestone in a (mostly young and typically from real estate, finance and mining and export businesses) Chinese’s life and uplifts his social standing. The market is expected to further grow disproportionately with the rise of Chinese elite. For reference, it is expected that 3.5 million people in China will have the financial means to buy a premium car by 2015 up from 1.8 million today. Furthermore, the global exposure and education has also contributed to a greater awareness of premium cars and differentiation from mass segment. There is thus a tremendous scope for Jaguar Land Rover to further exploit this opportunity. Not unexpectedly, the segment is dominated by global brands. Brand value, technical competence and price insensitivity of buyer seem to be the major reasons for absence of any home-grown competitors. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz accounted for roughly 76 per cent[3] of premium car sales in...

...1. a. Panthera Leo, The full classification for a lion would be: Kingdom, Animalia; Phylum, Chordata; Class, Mammalia; Order, Carnivora; Family, Felidae; Genus, Panthera; Species, leo b. I found quite a lot of clashing information on this subject, some said Adam named the lion before time was even being recorded, and other said the Egyptians named the lion, but I could not find any reliable sources for this. As for the meaning, Panthera Leo: “large gregarious predatory feline of Africa and India having a tawny coat with a shaggy mane in the male” c. leopards, cougars, panthers, ocelots, and anything feline basically d. My scientific name would honestly be the same as it is now, if I was the one to name it I would probably think of something different at the time. But I have been associating leo with lion too long to think of any other name that doesn’t sound ridiculous. 2. a. Panthera Tigris, The full classification for a tiger would be: Kingdom, Animalia; Phylum, Chordata; Class, Mammalia; Order, Carnivora; Family, Felidae; Genus, Panthera; Species, leo b. Once again, I had a lot of trouble finding anything about who named the tiger. All I really got was that it was named in Asia. As for the meaning of the Tiger’s scientific name: Panthera Tigris – “large feline of forests in most of Asia having a tawny coat with black stripes; endangered” c. Lion, panther, cougar, and anything feline basically. d. Once again, I watched a movie called Kung-Fu panda at a young age and...
