In the story “Patchwork Blouse” the author James E Guin uses 2nd-person perspective to draw in the reader to experience the sad emotion in the story as if they were experiencing it themselves. The main characters, stay unnamed, are a couple who both seem to work at NASA; the female character is experiencing some hardship with having to let go of her significant other who is traveling to Mars. They connect over this blouse the female character found at the thrift store “[y]our hair is black like space and this blouse is red like Mars”...then go into your lecture about how the iodized rocks on Mars makes the fourth planet from our sun look red when viewing in from the Earth” (Guin).
