The character(s) I was given is the outsiders in the story, and I chose Amos Hicks. He is a resident Eatonville, Florida. Hicks is one of the first people to meet Janie and Jody. He tries unsuccessfully to lure Janie away from Jody. Amos wants to take advantage of Janie.

He was old enough to be her father but he sees it as an opportunity to hit on a young girl. He is disappointed when he finds out that Janie is Joe’s wife and not his daughter. Lee is Amos friend who is slightly more level headed. He thinks that Joe Starks just might pull off the role of a white man in town. Lee Coker and Amos Hicks are trying to win Janie over and they both are unsuccessful to seduce her, foreshadowing Jody’s controlling behavior over his wife’s self expression
