While collecting information for his research project, Dr. Jay Giedd scanned the brains of the same individuals, beginning from early childhood until adolescence. With this, he was able to look inside the teenage brain, and discover that leading up to puberty, the prefrontal cortex undergoes some of the largest transformations it shall undergo in an individual's lifetime. Giedd concluded that because of these changes, and the misconceptions most parents possess regarding their child's development, teens are susceptible to complex emotions and frustration environments.
