Jaycee Lee Dugard was born on May 3, 1980, in South Lake Tahoe, California. At the young age of 11, Dugard was kidnapped by Phillip and Nancy Garrido while on her way to school. Phillip tazed her before forcing her into a van and covering her with a blanket. Carl Probyn, Jaycees’ stepfather, saw her get kidnapped through a window in their home’s garage and attempted to chase the car on this bicycle but was sadly not quick enough. The search included dogs, aircraft and hundreds of law enforcement personnel, but to no avail; Jaycee wasn't found” (“Jaycee Dugard”).
Dugard had been driven 156 miles away to Antioch, California where she was handcuffed and left in a shack, built to be a makeshift recording studio, in the Garridos’ backyard. It was not long before the UCPD special events manager grew suspicious of his behavior and requested another officer to conduct a background check on Garrido. It was revealed that Garrido was a registered sex offender and was out on parole for kidnapping and rape. After following up with his parole officer, who was surprised Garrido had children, he attended a parole meeting with Nancy, his wife, Jaycee and their daughters. Jaycee initially covered for him, claiming she and her two daughters were relatives until Garrido broke down and confessed to his crimes.
