The Advocacy Project that I worked on this semester was regarding The Jeanne Clery Act. The Jeanne Clery Act is a federal law passed in 1990, requires all colleges and universities who receive federal funding to share information about crime on campus and their efforts to improve campus safety as well as inform the public of crime in or around campus. This information is made publicly accessible through the university's annual security report. Even though I had an idea about what They Clery Act meant, I learned a lot more in depth information. I can now say I know what grounds this act is on. I know how to describe it to people and talk about it. As to before I wasn’t really able to discuss it, now I can have a conversation and input when someone is talking. Seeing how critical it is to make sure all crime gets reported in the Annual Security Report by October 1st, made me realize it’s more than just the campus police department that handles crime, it’s also the women’s center, CAPS, and local police departments. They help and assist by giving statistics and at the end of the yearly term.…show more content… A challenge that I faced working on this project was creating the actual poster. Even though Ashley and I had the information ready to go on a PowerPoint, we were absolutely lost in transitioning it into a poster board. We finally figured it out; I have to say that the poster looks really nice and professional. We presented The Jeanne Clery Act poster board at the Violence Prevention Conference on October 30th.
