There have been hundreds of serial killers documented and identified over the decades in America (statistics), but there have been a handful that have stood out from the rest. One of them was a man named Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. Given the circumstances of his murders, his psychological profile, or just the initial public shock of it all, it all stems from where he started- his childhood. He stood out from the rest of America’s 20th century serial killers, and for a good reason. Jeffrey Dahmer was known as as The Milwaukee Cannibal and The Milwaukee Killer. These nicknames, given by the media provided a hook, and ensured their story be read or heard. He he was convicted of rape, murder, taking the lives 17 men and boys throughout a span of 13 years, from 1978 to 1991 (CBS). Jeffrey Dahmer’s killings involved necrophilia, cannibalism, the preservation of body parts, and lobotomy (crime museum). Lobotomy was a psychosurgery procedure that involved inserting a long metal “pick” of sorts and inserting it through either the nose, or through the gap above the eye to the to the frontal lobe of the brain.
