There are thousands of schools in America, but with the same society. Jerry Spinilli created Stargirl to represent what happens in schools currently. The book is basically about a girl named "Stargirl" attending a school named Mica Area High School. Throughout Stargirl, the reader will notice how Stargirl did not conform because she was not going to give up her identity.

In the beginning of the book Stargirl, a character named Stargirl showed odd behavior and madcap things such as playing a ukulele in the lunchroom. She never conformed into Mica Area High School (MAHS) because she was very queer in the student's eyes. Everyone wondered why Stargirl was so way-out and they thought she was a hoax. But the truth is, is that Stargirl enjoys
