...Jericho at one time. Judas had become an apostle of the rabbi Jesus who was recently crucified. He was one of the 12 followers closest to Jesus. The group traveled around teaching and sharing their ideas of God. Judas Iscariot carried the purse for the assembly. As the person in this prominent position in the group, he had issues with Mary washing Jesus’s feet with expensive perfume. He felt this was a waste of money. Judas believed that the perfume could have been sold and used to help the poor; however now his closest friends wonder if this concern wasn’t out of greed. Judas spent the night before his death sharing the Passover supper with his teacher and friends in an upper room. However, sources say that Judas left the meal early after a discussion about unfaithfulness and deception among the group. Later that night, Judas was seen in the Garden of Gethsemane at the time that Jesus’s arrest occurred. Although, Judas had not come to the garden with Jesus and the others. He walked into the area with a group of men sent by the chief priest and kissed Jesus on the cheek. The brotherly kiss was the signal of which person the soldiers should arrest. Judas had sold his teacher for 30 pieces of silver. Sources say the morning after Judas gave the betraying kiss, he returned to Caiaphas, the chief priest, and the Elders at the temple. The crowds now assume that Judas did not realize the intent was to kill Jesus when he took the money. He tried to return the money. He was so...

...Social Justice and the Bible While it appears one is compassionate when this term of “social justice” is used we now know where it comes from. You find neither the term nor the principle in the Bible; nor in the US Constitution. There are liberal/progressive Christians that claim “social justice” is part of the gospel. We are not commissioned to transform society and make sure everything is equal. We are called to rehabilitate sinners by the power of God, not government. The gospel is the cure for sin and it has absolutely nothing to do with “social justice.” The Bible speaks a lot on work and laziness. We have all heard the story - if you give a person a fish he will be fed today, but if you teach him to fish he will be able to feed himself and his family everyday. Giving people the tools to grow and be productive is better than having them become dependent on government for their sustenance. When Pres. Bush introduced the faith based initiative many felt religion would intrude on them and they were appalled. The Administrations “faith base initiative” was to be a partnership with many religions to help reform “communities.” Recently Pres. Obama has given a new and stronger influence to faith based initiative. All of a sudden religion with government is permissible and nothing is being said because it advances the socialist agenda. Its all about the green, both the environment and money. The environmental movement is being synthesized inside the church. There are faith based...

Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and...

...What Mark is trying to explain in this passage is that as long as we are rich in spirit and in our faith we will be welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven. ¨Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues¨ (verse 38). In this verse Jesus is telling us to not to be fooled by those who dress to purposely stand out, and constantly be acknowledged by their contributions to the Church and to society. These people are seeking praise and acceptance from others, so we know they are at a higher level in the social class than us and that we need to set new standards. Jesus rewards those who give genuine sacrifices but he is welcoming to all. ¨Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.”(verses 41 and 42). After this Jesus spoke to his disciples and told them, these are the type of people that need to be rewarded. The woman’s donation has more worth in the eyes of God because even though the rich men’s donation are larger, money wise, they made no sacrifice. The woman gave all she had to the treasury, while the rich don’t make a dent in their wealth....

...Investing in stocks and bonds as a Christian in the world today: Smart idea or foolish choice? What should a Christian valued person do in these scary economic times? Let’s dig deeper in the Bible to find out. God expects us to be good stewards of the money and other items of wealth that He has given to us. He emphasizes this so much that Jesus even used the parable of the talent in the Book of Matthew in the New Testament to illustrate the fact that He expects us to do something with the money God has entrusted to us. The parable makes it obvious that God doesn’t expect us to be stupid about how we use our money. Technically, it is not even our money. It is His money. Therefore, we should consider God’s will about how He wants it spent so that it is used in godly manner. The parable of the talent as discussed in the Matthew makes it perfectly clear that God doesn’t expect us to just sit idle with our money. Given that godly expectation; there are many low risk ways to invest our money. Whether we use stocks, bonds, treasury bills or a savings account; there are many ways to be a good steward of Gods money during the short time that we have it here on earth. As investors; we are not being careless with God’s money as long as we do our research and feel confident that we are investing with His Will in mind. Researching how to invest Gods money equals wise choices. Investing can be a wise choice as long as one does their research as mentioned above. Unfortunately, many Christians...

Bozeman HUM/266 Dr. Edward Zevin July 31, 2012 University of Phoenix Introduction: Greek and Gothic Architecture Greek architecture flourished during the Hellenic era of Greek history. Temples were popular amongst the Greeks. They are most revered buildings in Greek architecture. Temples built in ancient Greece where used for the purpose of holding deity statues dedicated to Greek Gods and Goddess. Temples such as the Parthenon was used for holding Greek treasures. This form of architecture would spread throughout northern Europe. Gothic Architecture was common in many of Europe’s important structures, particularly religious churches and cathedrals. Cathedrals such as the Salisbury represented the power of the Catholic Church in Europe during this time period. Both Greek and Gothic architectural styles were often utilized in designing places of worship. ...Twenty-eight Prophecies Fulfilled On the Crucifixion Day On the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, all the prophecies concerning His suffering were fulfilled in every detail—a lasting testimony that Jesus truly is the Messiah. The first prophecy, the oldest of all, had been given by God at the time of Adam and Eve’s sin: 1) The serpent would bruise the seed of the woman. Prophesied: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Gen. 3:15). Fulfilled: “ ‘Now is the judgment of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to Myself.’ But He said this to signify by what death He was about to die” (John 12:31-33). 2) The Messiah would be cut off, but not for Himself, as prophesied by Daniel. Prophesied: “And after sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off but not for Himself” (Dan. 9:26). Fulfilled: “ ‘Nor consider that it is better for us that one man die for the people, than that the whole nation should perish.’ Now he did not say this of himself, but being high priest that year, prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation; and not for the nation only, but also that He might gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad” (John 11:50- 52). 3) The betrayal of Jesus by Judas was foretold by David. Prophesied: “Even a man, my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up ...

What is an IPO, how does it work, and will a publicly traded Facebook affect how we use the social network on a daily basis? Here's a quick guide. WHAT EXACTLY IS AN IPO? When a privately owned company makes an Initial Public Offering, it means they're moving to be publicly traded on the stock market for the first time. ...INTRODUCTION After spending the past few weeks studying the Parable of the Loving Father (sometimes called the Prodigal Son), we arrive at chapter 16 to find one of the most unusual parables Jesus ever uttered. Some Bible teachers merely skip over it or ignore it. I call it the parable of the Crooked Manager. It’s a story about an employee who “cooked the books” for his employer. He used dishonest methods to give an accounting of his company’s assets. It reads much like a deposition from the Enron! It’s a parable about money, which shouldn’t be surprising because of the 38 parables Jesus told, 19 of them dealt with handling possessions. Baptism is important, but there are 16 times more verses in the New Testament on handling money than are devoted to baptism. The Lord’s Supper is important, but there are 32 times more Biblical statements about Christian financial management than about the Lord’s Supper. Since Jesus had so much to say about it, we’d better pay attention. I hope you know you can trust God–but when it comes to handling God’s money, how much can he trust you? Keep your Bibles open because we will read each section of scripture as we discuss it. First, we will consider: I. THE PARABLE: THE GOOD EXAMPLE OF A CROOK (1-8) Let’s just read the parable beginning in Luke 16:1: Jesus told his disciples, “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your...
