Is Jesus the Reason for the Season? In my house, Jesus is definitely part of the reason for the season but I do not think that is the only reason for the holiday spirit entering our home. Though my family does celebrate the birth of Jesus as part of the festivities, we also take the time to appreciate and spend time with family. However, the entire christmas day was supposed to be spend celebrating God and the birth of his Son, and I do not think that is what takes space in our minds amongst the opening of presents and the abundance of food. Though my family does go to church that morning to celebrate Jesus, once church is over, the purpose of the day starts to leave our memory. On christmas there are gifts to be given and received, as well as stomachs that are painfully full and the wine that is passed around the adult table becomes the focus of the time. This creates a more commercial holiday, rather than a religious one centered around Jesus. In society I believe that Christmas has become all about the presents: whether it be the expectation of getting them or the stress of trying to find the perfectly impressive present for a loved one. Even the Christmas tree no longer has meaning, they are commercially grown to be chopped down and last in the house for two weeks. The holiday season has become all about spending money instead of about the glory

of God. The only thing that should be important on Christmas is the joy of having family around you, and worshiping God because he gave us his son as a savior.

Holiday Marketing

...I. Abstract There are many reasons why we give gifts today for birthdays, weddings, graduations, etc. to friends and loved ones. A few reasons we give gifts is for peace, protection, love, or because of social obligations. Holiday gifting is a special occasion going back to the beginning of Christianity where the Three Wise Men brought gifts for baby Jesus. This gesture has now turned to giving gifts to our family and friends. The holiday season of 2014 is shaping up to be a prosperous year for retailers. With an estimated 4% increase in holiday sales compared to 2013 and consumer confidence is at its highest because of lower unemployment, higher wages, salaries, and disposable income. Consumers this holiday season are expected to spend approximately $804 on gifts. Along with lower gas and energy prices, consumers are more likely to spend more this holiday than the last on gifts like Disney Frozen Snow Glow Elsa Doll, Apple iPhone 6, and jewelry. Key promotions like Wal-Mart’s price matching policy, Kmart’s layaway service, USPS delivery service schedule hours expansion, the holiday season looks to be headed in a positive way. There are other ways to improve this holiday seasons like online retailers providing free shipping on all purchases or discounting newer products instead of outdated items. The holiday season will be promising! Even 2015 holiday season will be a good one as long as consumers are confident that the U.S. economy is recovering from the recession! II...

Theology Of Christmas Carol Research Paper

...The Theology of the Christmas Carol Over decades music has been synonymous with the celebration of special moments. This could not be truer than the tradition of listening to carols during the Christmas season. Whether they are sacred or secular, these timeless carols tend to leave a lasting impression in people’s hearts. For some, just listening to a scared Christmas carol can be emotional experience. For the simple reason that: they tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and the gift of a second chance. On the other hand, there is something magical about the secular Christmas carols. They are a reminder of childhood traditions and joyful celebrations. Unquestionably, these special carols will continue to be a staple of the Christmas celebration. The contrasting...

Catholic Religion

...order to make sure they stay within the track the lord wants us on. Sometime around my tenth birth we made the change as a family to become protestant, and until today we are Protestants. In recent years, I asked my mother why we made the change from one religion to another and she told me the reason why was that at some point her and my father stopped believing in some of the rituals that the Catholic Church practice. I agreed with her and with all the reasons she and my father had and why they decided to make the switch, but today I honestly don’t believe on the traditions and rituals that Catholics observe but I find they are interesting and very intriguing. However, while the Catholic doctrine and traditions are very structured, why are there so many inconsistencies? And why is the Roman Catholic Church often in the news? I visited the local Roman Catholic Church in Tracy, California; St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. It is a beautiful facility, from the outside; the building looks like an old Spaniard building almost like the same type of design on all California missions. On the inside the church carries the same type of motive as the outside. On the altar it has the usual cross with Jesus Christ on it just like in any other Catholic Church. Their mass schedule is the same as any other Catholic Church. The priest wore a very elaborate robe, and he seemed to be fluent in another language...

...Follow Jesus Wholeheartedly Luke 18: 18-27 August 10, 2014 Have you ever started well and gave up half way? Began something, put your best foot forward, but, didn’t complete it? I was a runner in high school. I ran various events, however, my primary race was the 800-meter. There were two of us in my high school who were pretty good at this particular race. During my senior year I was coming back from an injury and was very excited to begin the season after training throughout the fall and winter. I remember very vividly my first race of the year. My teammate and I were both scheduled to run the 800. Prior to the race, I went over to my teammate and said, “here we go! Lets get first and second!” For some reason in my mind, I was thinking that he would be first and I would be second. We started the race and I immediately got right behind him. I trailed him the entire way. From the beginning of the race to the end of the race, I followed him. We ended up being #1 and #2 that day and I was #2. I think back to that race today, all of the training, all of the effort and in the midst of that race, I didn’t give it my all. The gun fired and I was in the midst of the race, I didn’t have victory on my mind, I was willing to take 2nd. I was willing to run the perfect race until I got close to the finish line. Have you ever started well and come up short? Stepped out in pursuit of God’s best, but didn’t complete it. Have you ever settled for...

...himself or herself to the person talking to him/her without any form of suspicion. This writeup is made to x-ray the importance of one-to-one discipleship as stated by our lord and saviour Jesus Christ. This report also focuses on the hinderances to this missing ingredient in christendom today. 1.1 Disciple  In Christian usage a disciple is a follower of Jesus Christ, an adherent to the Christian tradition.  A student, learner or pupil in the school of his/her master (Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Copyright © 1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers)  Someone who believes in ideas of a great teacher especially a religious teacher and tries to follow him.  Someone who has an aptitude to acquire knowledge from a mentor (disciplar).  Someone that accept the doctrine of his master without any logical reason. The example is that of Jesus Christ and His disciples. Matt. 10:24 says “the disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord’’. In other words no man can ever expect to be greater than Christ, for He is the only Lord and Christ (Act 2:36).  The word disciple appears in the bible 28 times, while the plural form (disciples) appears 244 times The disciple, as an adherent and follower of Jesus is a prominent figure in each of the four Gospels, and is the counterpart of Jesus in His role as teacher, as well as LORD (Matt 8:25) and MASTER (Luke 8:24). The NT also employs a verbal form (‎math¢teúein‎) for the act of being a disciple or making a disciple (Matt...

John 9

...The 1964 Philadelphia Phillies will always be known as the team that suffered one of the great collapses in sports history. They let a huge division lead slip away by losing ten games in a row at the end of the season. Despite the collapse, the Phillies season had its share of memorable moments, including a perfect game and a ninth-inning home run by a Phillie to win the All-Star Game. But the most remarkable moment of the entire season occurred after a game, not during it. Clay Dalrymple, a Phillie pitcher, was asked to help a blind girl who had requested a chance to walk out on the field. Dalrymple took the girl to home plate where she reached down and felt the plate. Then they walked to first base, second base, and third base before ending up at home plate once again. While Dalrymple was showing the girl around the bases, he never noticed that the fans remaining in the stadium had stopped to watch him and his companion. He just assumed that the silence in the stands meant the fans had gone home. But when the two of them finally reached home plate, the ballpark erupted. Dalrymple was shocked by the applause. When he looked up, he saw thousands of fans giving him a standing ovation. Dalrymple later told a Sports Illustrated reporter, “It was the biggest ovation I ever got.” I am convinced that we take so many things for granted in life. Sight is one of those things. For those of us who have been blessed with the ability to see, we don’t know what it is like not to see. It...

Luke added the destination in which Jesus and His disciples were heading unlike Matthew and Mark. The crowd learned of the location and followed Jesus and His disciples. Jesus welcomed them and spoke about the kingdom of God, and healed those in need (Luke 9: 11). This is seen a divine appointment by God. Because of the crowd set out to find Jesus in a desert place (Barclay 117). Jesus welcomed those who came to Him by healing...

The Battle Is for Your Future

...The Battle Is For Your Future Shaborn Vail Genesis 37:5-37:8 “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: For, Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.” Genesis 37:5-8 Joseph’s brothers already hated him because he was the favorite son of their father. But once Joseph began to talk about his dreams, once he began to talk about his future, their hatred for him increased and they began to question him by asking him “Shalt you indeed reign over us? Shall you indeed have dominion over us?” Josephs brothers were not so concerned about who he was, as a seventeen year old dreamer. Their concern was over who he was going to become. They were not afraid of his present, they were afraid of his future. And they wanted to stop him from becoming who God said he would become and going where God said he would go. They wanted to stop him from entering into his destiny. If there is anything Satan desires to do today it is to keep you from entering into your destiny. He wants to keep you from your future! Satan does not care if you live in your past...

Evan 201 Reflection Paper

...Reflection Paper EVAN 201 – B02 Preparation for Personal Evangelism Instructor – Dr. Claudia Dempsey February 1, 2015 Part 1 Many different ideas come to mind when thinking about the Work of the Cross. The Bible teaches Jesus died on the cross for man’s sins and to grant everlasting life to God’s followers with God in heaven. The sins of man are washed away with the blood of Christ and we receive God’s salvation and sanctification. When looking at the Work of the Cross, a Christian needs to look no further than John 3:16 (NRSV), which states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” But this would be too simple of an answer for God’s intention for Christ on the cross and how Christ and the cross play a role in the salvation and sanctification of man. The next two verses, John 3:17-18, help explain it further, stating, “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. / Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” Christ dying on the cross was the Work of the Cross, but man must do some work themselves to gain the salvation and sanctification God has offered. Man must accept Christ as the Son of God and recognize Christ as the Messiah mentioned in earlier scripture. Without doing this...

Where Did He Get Such Wisdom

...Where did He get such Wisdom! Wisdom and a Fresh Anointing of the Holy Spirit for New Seasons & New Beginnings... The Lord wants to anoint us with supernatural wisdom that will cause people to say, “How did he get so smart?” They said that of Jesus. Mark 6:2b And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! You see, we need that again in the Church. We need to set the standard for the world. Jesus lived His life plugged into the Flow of the Spirit of Wisdom, so His life, on a day to day basis, demonstrated skillful living that glorified and demonstrated the reality of the Kingdom of God. Don’t you want an impartation from the Spirit of wisdom? I believe we're coming into new seasons and new times in the Lord. It's not that it’s new to Him, it's new to us. The Church needs to operate in the Spirit of wisdom and understanding now! We need to raise up a standard, not by our ability, but by being plugged into the Spirit of wisdom, this is not information or performance, but skillful ability and understanding that releases authority and strong leadership. We are seeing major changes all around that will and has effect each of our lives and more are on the way. If there was ever a time for you and I to live and operate out of the Spirit of Wisdom it is Now! Please know that I'm not talking about what your ability is or a few nuggets...
