Mr. Beach, what if this year rather than the hum-dum senior piece, we had a contemporary, creative, captivating senior submission? Can you imagine the increased yearbook sales! I think I have found him. Here’s my analytical assessment of, in my opinion, the best candidate for the senior writer page opening. The qualifications of Jim Krist are the images he gives us by explaining his experiences of high school is through tone and attitude, rhetorical devices and diction, and literary devices which allows the reader to understand the message he is trying to give in this passage.
Tone and Attitude
The main tones are reminiscing and wisdom in this passage. The two different tones allow the reader to know that Krist created many memories and that…show more content… 6He makes you reminisce special and old times; for example, “Life passed unbelievably quickly and before I knew it, it was four years later.” 2 Not only did Krist make utterances memorable but he also lets the reader that he is well-informed of the whole journey when he says, “The water balloons during finals, the varsity football games, Nike tennis shoes, my first date, the honor roll, freshman biology and sex education, food fights, a toga party are all wrapped in a four-year package.” 4Either he was trying to make the reader remember every memory they created or he was just trying to have them agree that what he said was right either way he let us know he was well informed of what high school was like. 7He made utterances memorable and also he was well informed; however, he also creates some sense of humor when he says, “But be it 4, 14, or 40 years later, I know these memories (and pizzas) will stick with me. I know I still like Jello.” 11Those are some of the few rhetorical devices and diction that were used in this passage. There is many more great rhetorical devices and diction used and it allows the reader to see his perspective and know that they are not the only ones who felt like he
