Jim compared to wax can be associated to the Greek Myth of Icarus. Son Daedalus, Icarus and his father escaped the prison Island of King Mines by making wings of feathers and wax. Charles Halloway could be associated to Icarus as the only reason Charles gets to leave the library to go save Jim and Will is because of the love he has for the boys, a connection that gave him his “wings”. Therefore Jim is part of the wax that let Charles Halloway have freedom and leave the library.
