Americans did not forget all the broken promises and dishonesty they dealt with while Reagan was in office. For many reasons he would be considered a good President but there are many more reasons that he would not. Reagan’s ratings were higher than the averages of his three immediate predecessors, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon (Frank Newport, 2004). When rating Reagan, many factors show that he is indeed overrated, not only as a president but an individual as well. During Reagan’s term in office Americans faced recession, debt, high unemployment, questionable foreign policy and wasteful spending among other things. As Reagan was sworn, one of the first incidents, which were the release of the 51 hostages from the American Embassy in Tehran, occurred. Carter’s Presidential Time in Office In 1976 Americans chose James L. Carter versus Gerald Ford as their new president. The former governor of Georgia was appointed in hopes of defending American interests in the midst of the Cold War. Of President Carters’ administration, one of its most resilient adversities was faced Iran. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower overthrew the leader of Iran in the 1953 Iranian coup d'etat, and used nuclear threats to conclude the Korean War with China. The New Look policy, the national security policy of the United States during his administration, called the New Look policy gave priority to inexpensive nuclear weapons while reducing the funding for the other military forces; the goal was to keep pressure on the Soviet Union and reduce federal deficits. His mother was Daisy Full Young a school teacher, and his father was Andrew Jackson Young Sr., a dentist. Young’s father hired a professional boxer to teach Andrew and his brother how to fight, so they could defend themselves. From that, Andrew decided that violence was not the path he would choose to follow. After beginning his higher education at Dillard University, Young transferred to Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1947, and received his Bachelor of Science in pre-dentistry degree there in 1951. He felt a religious calling and entered the Turner-Boatwright Christian ministry school and earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1955. Young was appointed to serve as pastor of a church in Marion, Alabama. It was there in Marion that he met Jean Childs, who later became his wife. He became friend and ally of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at this time. In 1060 he joined the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. I had just received a call and was notified that a heart has become available for a transplant. I currently have 3 patients that are candidates for this heart. Time is of the essence; therefore I have decided to give the heart to Jerry, a 55 year old, married and father of 3 children. I believe Jerry is the best candidate for the transplant because of his overall situation. As I mentioned before, he is only 55 years old, married and has 3 children, the youngest has special needs. His wife does not have a higher education, or has been gainfully employed in some time. With that said, she will have a difficult time providing for herself and their children. Jerry does not have a strenuous job and is eligible for retirement in 5 years and then he can take it easy. Even though his bad heart is a result of self-inflicted steroid use during his early 20’s, the dangers associated with that use were not fully known. Since then, he has changed his life style and has a family that depends on him. With this transplant, he can live another 10 -15 years and I do not see any ill effects of him receiving this new heart and the fact that he is currently here awaiting this procedure, he can be prepped and ready to go by the time the heart arrives at the hospital making him the perfect choice.
