Pekar shows this when he writes, “It’s an unusual name – Harvey Pekar… ‘Harvey’ doesn’t really go with ‘Pekar’ — not in the conventional sense at least…” (261). In the end, Harvey comes to the unanswered thought “Who is Harvey Pekar?” (Pekar 264). This all leads to the question, why do we find names important to begin with? What are names? It seems like a simple enough question, but it is actually a very deep and meaningful one. Pekar writes Harvey Pekar in a situation where he thinks out, “What’s in a name? Who is Harvey Pekar?” (264).
