There have been many wars that have made history in America. The Civil War was one of the most memorable wars in American History. The Civil War consisted of many influential leaders and generals who are remembered for their leadership. John C Fremont was one of the generals. His leadership in the wars were memorable.
John Charles Fremont was born on January 21, 1813 in Savannah Georgia (“Encyclopedia Britannica”). His parents were Charles Fremont and Anne Whiting Pryor (Fremont 45-46). At the age of six his father died, and at 13 years old, he got his first job as a clerk (“Encyclopedia Britannica”). he made the routes he went through Sierra Nevada to California and he got to Fort Sutter (“History Britannica”). He wrote about his expeditions and they gained interest to the general public (McNamara 2-3). In 1845, he served in the American-Mexican in California as the senator (Fremont 46). He also served in the Civil War as a Union general (McNamara 4).
At the time, he was appointed governor of California and served for two months (Fremont 2). He was arrested and taken back to Washington DC and retired from the Army (Fremont 2-3). In 1856, he ran for president, which he lost to James Buchanan, and became the first republican candidate to run for president (Fremont 46). He ran for president because he wanted to secure California (“History Britannica” 3). In 1861, he wanted take over people’s property and free slaves in Missouri and Lincoln disagreed (“History Britannica” 3). In 1862, he came back to the army and served as leader in the Appalachian region (“History Britannica”). His spot got taken away from him by Thomas Jackson and he was furious, so furious that left the army again (“History Britannica”
