...Evidence Based Management and Psychological Contracts: The Success of Apple. Aaron Wood Ottawa University * Introduction For decades, the application of organizational behavior theories to business management has been an ongoing process of discovery and innovative thinking. Concepts like evidence based management (McShane, 2013) and psychological contracts (Braekkan & Tunheim, 2013) are being employed in some of the world’s leading corporations. For the purpose of this paper, the synthesis of material into conceptual application will be applied to a single corporate entity. By choosing a company with global interests who continues to espouse very personal, individual based value perspectives, Apple is a good representational fit. This paper will highlight not only how Apple in some cases is using these concepts successfully in the market place, but also ways in which their former CEO failed miserably in utilization of these concepts while achieving enormous corporate success. This paper will also look to Apple’s future and how study of these theories along with others may be further developed. Multiple references from a wide array of media sources and fields of study have been researched to show the breadth of Apple’s stakeholder and business positioning strategies from the earliest days up to resources compiled as late as November 2013. As the development of information threads lead to fields like manufacturing, education, supply chains, demography, and even social-psychology;...

...Julia Child was born in 1912 in Pasadena, California. Her parents were Julia Weston and John McWilliams. She was one of three children. Her parents both attended high learning institutions and definitely were a family of means. Julia’s dad attended Princeton and her maternal grandfather was the “founder of the Weston Paper Company”. (Juliachildfoundation.org, 2016) Julia had the original goal to be a writer for her career, however, that goal did not come to fruition in the way she intended. She did have best-selling books but they were cookbooks rather than the works of fiction she aspired to write in her younger, college years. Julia joined a government agency called the Office of Strategic Services where she started as a typist but later became a research assistant. During her employment with this agency she traveled many places and during her employment she met and fell in love with her husband, Paul Child....

...in the physical world. By using the scientific method, researchers use observations and hypotheses, in order to foresee the outcome of an experiment, then conduct that experiment and draw conclusions from the observations of the experiment. The scientific method is not only useful for scientists and laboratories but something that can be applied to everyday situations (Trefil & Hazen). Most people do not think about how science is used in their everyday lives. Take for instance you are having guest coming over for dinner and you plan to cook your favorite dish then realize one of the main ingredients is missing and your guest will arrive in one hour. Without realizing it you began using the scientific method by asking yourself, what am I going to do now? Or, how am I going to make this taste great without all of the ingredients? This is the beginning of the scientific method. The second step would be to do some background research to answer your question. In this scenario, you would go into the kitchen and find an ingredient that you can substitute for the missing ingredient to put in your favorite dish. In doing this you will construct a hypothesis which is an educated guess on how the recipe will taste if you substitute the main ingredient. The hypothesis will allow you to answer your question in step one. The next step would be to test your hypothesis by preparing your dish with the substituted ingredient in it then tasting it to see if it tastes good. After testing...

...Jesus Macias Coloton Byrne Consumer Behavior Term Paper November 10, 2013 For this research project we both picked our samples to be people who we previously knew. We decided to go with this approach because it was someone that we could see every day and have some background information on them to help explain the things they do on a day to day basis. We watched them for a period of 4 weeks to observe the purchases and the patterns of their lifestyles. For the sake of keeping our sample’s identities CJ’s sample will be referred to as Bob and Jesus’s will be referred to as John. Since we both knew Bob and John before starting this experiment we had some background knowledge of what kind of family they came from and why they do the things they do. Bob is 20 year old Caucasian male who is a member of the generation Y from Minnesota. He lives in a house that his parents bought. He doesn’t pay rent but lives with roommates who do. He is high school educated but pursuing further education and is attending college at SMSU. He also is a college athlete so most of his free time is taken up by that, so he doesn’t work during the school year. Bob would be classified in the middle class on his own but comes from a farming family who is well off and falls under the upper middles class. His lifestyle reflects that of his family’s because he was brought up living like that. Bob’s financial situation is secure because he can usually ask for assistance from his parents if he himself...

...During the twentieth century in Michigan, many believed that they could create a race of strong, healthy individuals by weeding out the ‘unfit.’ Those they considered to be idiots, imbeciles, feeble minded, insane, sexual perverts, moral degenerates, and epileptic persons were considered for sterilization. The thought was that by sterilizing the ‘unfit’ and the minorities, the worst genes would be eliminated, therefore only the best genes would reproduce. Focusing my research between the years 1869-1974, this paper will investigate the birth of eugenics and Michigan's adoption of the science, which resulted in the massive human rights violations of the states 3,786 residents. This paper will provide the answer to, why was eugenic sterilization such a commonly accepted science in Michigan during the early 1900’s until the sterilization law was repealed in the 1974? My research will show that eugenic sterilization, although heinous in nature, was justified by Michigan scientists and residents a like by claims of a more humane society and was thought to be the saving grace of mankind. Eugenics is a word derived from Greek meaning "well born" and was formulated by British scientist Francis Galton, cousin of Charles Darwin, after an 1869 study which stemmed from his cousins idea of better evolution. This work concluded that heredity was the sole factor in a persons make up—all things good and bad, anywhere from intellect to deformations. The definition of eugenics given by Galton...

It is not this papers intent to engage in the pros or cons of any given doctrine as it pertains to soteriology, but instead illustrate that what is seen by some as a modern incursion of Calvinism upon the Southern Baptist scene is in fact not without precedent and has a long standing tradition among many of this denominations most ardent practitioners. ...heart diseases. America has been considered one of the fattest countries, poor eating habits and absence of exercise greatly contributes to these health problems. Critics blame fast food restaurants for the problem. In addition, they claim that their foods are unhealthy because of the excessive grams of fat that are in the burgers and other foods that they serve. But these restaurants serve food to people who chose to buy their products, whether consumers purchase these foods or not, it's a decision that they made. Consumers should not be too eager to place the blame on fast food companies they are responsible for their own health. The purpose of this paper is to show that people who sue fast food companies are not cautious about what they eat; they should be responsible for their own actions instead of suing food companies. John Bhanzaf is one of the most popular lawyers who pressed charges against Mc Donald's. He was known for winning a 280 billion settlement from a tobacco company, and now he's after fast food companies. The lawsuit was filed by Ashley Pelman, a minor, Roberta Pelman, Ashley's mother and Jazlen Bradley accompanied by her father Israel Bradley. Their claim was that Mc Donalds did not inform their customers the ingredients they use and the effects of eating their fast food products which they promote to be healthy. (Banzaf) Along with this claim they focused on McDonald's advertisement persuading children to buy their products. Representatives of Mc Donald's...
