John Snow is considered the father of modern epidemiology, because of his determination to find the source of the cholera outbreak in the SOHO District. What made Snow’s work different from others was that he established the methods to epidemiologic reasoning. This reasoning included suspicion (factors that may influence occurrence of disease), formulation of specific hypothesis, conducting studies, assess validity of association and make judgements as to whether a cause- effect relation between factor and condition exists. One of the main reasons why Snow will continue to receive recognition is because these steps of reasoning he took and “the so-called no- miracle argument in philosophy of science, according to which the success of science would be a miracle, …show more content…The Epidemiologic Triangle is a model that scientist have developed for studying health problems, to help understand infectious diseases and how they spread. The three major components of this model are, the host, agent and environment. The agent is the microbe that causes the disease, (the “what” of the triangle), while the host, or organism harboring the disease is (the “who” of the triangle) and the environment, or the external factors that cause or allow disease transmission, it is (the “where” of this triangle). The relationship between these three factors are simple, for example you have an agent (bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa) and these agents find a host, which are organisms (humans or animals), these organisms live in different environments which are the favorable surroundings and conditions external to the host causing or allowing the disease to be transmitted. This model is useful because it allows one to take this disease and determine the origins from which it came. It also gives scientist something to base their information and findings off
