While Bauckham attributes this Gospel to “the presbyter John” mentioned by Papias, the authors of this study show that the patristic evidence more likely seems to support the authorship of John the apostle and that the literary device of inclusio in the Fourth Gospel, astutely observed by Bauckham, also favors the authorship of John the son of Zebedee. The ever more daring proposals have included identifications of this figure as diverse as the apostle Thomas, Mary Magdalene, Lazarus, James the son of Zebedee, and even the Samaritan woman, among others. 1 Most recently, Richard Bauckham has weighed in on this debate in his landmark volume Jesus and the 1. ...John the Baptist Prepares the Way 1 ( what good news?)The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” 3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”(is this the good news?, what does it mean by sending a messenger is it john?) 4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. (was john a chosen one to baptize people by god?) 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Where was this located? Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message (why does it matter what john wore?) when Jesus was baptizing did john baptized to at the same time?  “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”(after him comes someone more porwerful? Does that mean that he is considering himself someone powerful also? What does it mean by baptizing with the holy spirit? Baptized with the spirit of god? (NIV)...

...John Doe is sometimes used to refer to a typical male in other contexts as well, in a similar manner to John Q. Public in the United States or Joe Public, John Smith or Joe Bloggs in Britain. For example, the first name listed on a form might be John Doe, along with a fictional address or other fictional information to provide an example of how to fill in the form. The name is also used frequently in US popular culture, for example in the Frank Capra film Meet John Doe. John Doe was also the name of a 2002 American television series. Similarly, a child or baby whose identity is unknown may be referred to as Baby Doe. A notorious murder case in Kansas City, Missouri, referred to the baby victim as Precious Doe.[3] Other unidentified female murder victims have also been nicknamed by the public or investigators as "Cali Doe" and "Princess Doe". Additional persons may be called James Doe, Judy Doe, etc. However, to avoid possible confusion, if two anonymous or unknown parties are cited in a specific case or action, the surnames Doe and Roe may be used simultaneously; for example, "John Doe v. Jane Roe". If several anonymous parties are referenced, they may simply be labelled John Doe #1, John Doe #2, etc. (the U.S. Operation Delego cited 21 (numbered) "John Doe"s) or labelled with other variants of Doe / Roe / Poe / etc. Other early alternatives such as John Stiles and Richard Miles are now rarely used, and Mary Major has been used in some American federal cases.[4] The Doe...

John Mayer

...many cords and melodies John Mayer composed an impactful song to the world that would draw people in to listen and take action. “Waiting on the world to change” since it was released in 2006 still to this day is widely recognized for its deep message Mayer was trying to deliver out to people. Just like “Waiting on the world to change” Mayer has many songs on his album that was released in 2006 “Continuum” that would rise up in the charts and make him the known artist he is today. John Mayer as a child was always very involved with music learned how to play several instruments by the inspiration of others. Mayer loved music, especially blues as can be heard from all his songs in which they all share a melancholic tune. As a young man in high school one of his first gigs was at a local blues bar with a band he had been currently been a part of. Although he only played guitar at the time Mayer was still songwriting. John Locke

...John Locke - Biography John Locke (1632-1704) John Locke was born on August 29, 1632, in Warington, a village in Somerset, England. In 1646 he went to Westminster school, and in 1652 to Christ Church in Oxford. In 1659 he was elected to a senior studentship, and tutored at the college for a number of years. Still, contrary to the curriculum, he complained that he would rather be studying Descartes than Aristotle. In 1666 he declined an offer of preferment, although he thought at one time of taking up clerical work. In 1668 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society, and in 1674 he finally graduated as a bachelor of medicine. In 1675 he was appointed to a medical studentship at the college. He owned a home in Oxford until 1684, until his studentship was taken from him by royal mandate. Locke's mentor was Robert Boyle, the leader of the Oxford scientific group. Boyle's mechanical philosophy saw the world as reducible to matter in motion. Locke learned about atomism and took the terms "primary and secondary qualities" from Boyle. Both Boyle and Locke, along with Newton, were members of the English Royal Society. Locke became friends with Newton in 1688 after he had studied Newton's Principia Mathematica Philosophiae Naturalis. It was Locke's work with the Oxford scientists that gave him a critical perspective when reading Descartes. Locke admired Descartes as an alternative to the Aristotelianism dominant at Oxford. Descartes' "way of ideas" was a major influence on Locke's...

John Lennon

...To start with I’ll talk about John Lennon as a member of the Beatles. Then I’ll move on to his solo career, his political and peace activism and after getting the general idea of his work I would like us to have a look on his influence upon his generation and maybe ours too. John Lennon became famous as a member and founder of the widely known band: The Beatles. Together with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they managed to become the most commercially successful band of the 20th century. During the 1960s, there was even a term used to describe their fans’ intense frenzy towards them: The Beatlemania (photos). All members contributed to the band. But at the time, Paul overshadowed the rest of the members. According to the fans, Paul was the cute one, Ringo was the funny one, George was the quite one and finally John was the intelligent one. The Beatles achieved mainstream success in the UK during the beginning of 1963 and in 1965 they received recognition from the British Establishment when they were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours. The USA VS John Lennon: By that time John and the rest of the Beatles had already become idols due to their musical geniuses. But being an idol is not only being adored but also being hated by people. I don’t think is possible for any idol to only be adored. When your face, your ideology is exposed to the world you are vulnerable to criticism, therefore to love but also hatred...

The Gospel of John

...Gospel of John remains a mystery—it hints at who its author is and yet never explicitly tells us. The story seems simple and straightforward, and yet one feels as though the author is often hinting at still deeper truths. In the New Testament it stands alone, distanced from the Synoptics by its unique presentation of the Christ-event. Of the four gospels, John is by far the most poetically written and the most distinct in terms of style, narrative and approach. While there are varying theories about who wrote it and when, it can be agreed on that the Gospel of John was written for not only a very different audience than the synoptic gospels, but also written independently of them. This can be seen in the basic language that it is written in, and can also be seen because there is no mention anywhere of the parables, Jesus' primary teaching method according to the synoptic gospels. Instead, John makes use of miracles and uses examples from Jesus' ministry to demonstrate his power and divinity. He uses his power over nature to raise people from the dead, heal a blind man and feed 5000 people with the physical amount of food for only a few. The gospel narrative contains a series of "signs"--the gospel's word for the wondrous deeds of Jesus. The author is primarily interested in the significance of these deeds, and so interprets them for the reader by various reflections, narratives, and discourses. The first sign is the transformation of water into wine at Cana (John 2:1-11);...

John Cage

...JOHN CAGE LIFE OVERVIEW John Cage was the son of an inventor. As a child he took piano lessons and then studied composition with American composer Adolph Weiss. Cage studied for a short time at Pamona College, and later at UCLA with classical composer Arthur Schoenberg. He began writing in his own musical system, often using techniques similar to those of Schoenberg. In 1937 he moved to Seattle and took a job accompanying a dance company. During the late '30s, Cage also began experimenting with musique concrète, composing the landmark Imaginary Landscape No. 1, which employed variable-speed phonographs and frequency tone recordings alongside muted piano and a large Chinese cymbal (Steinem 1964). He also invented the "prepared piano," in which he placed a variety of household objects between the strings of a grand piano to create sounds suggesting a one-man percussion orchestra. It was at this time that Cage fell under the sway of Eastern philosophies, the influence of Zen Buddhism informing the random compositional techniques of his later work; obsessed with removing forethought and choice from the creative model, he set out to make music in line with the principles of the I Ching, predictable only by its very unpredictability. TYPE OF MUSIC COMPOSED Cage organized an orchestra in Seattle in 1938. In 1940 he moved to San Francisco, where he and Lou Harrison gave concerts of performance based music, and in 1941 he went to Chicago to give a course...
