I want to analyze sources within the music video genre. Music videos provide a medium by which an artist can tell a narrative not only through introspective lyrics and chilling melodies, but also through meaningful symbolism with the video’s visuals.
My two primary sources are Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt”, and Disturbed’s cover of “The Sound of Silence”. “Hurt” is a song that was originally written by Nine Inch Nails, a rock band with heavy punk influences. Johnny Cash is known for being in three different music halls of fame for country music, rock and roll, and Gospel music. Johnny is at a very old age in this video. The song is a narrative on one’s reflection on their own life and parallels what Johnny may feel when reflecting upon his

The judge, a formidably heavy-featured man, rolled up the sleeves of his black robe as if to physically chastise the two young men standing before the bench. His face was cold with majestic contempt. But there was something false in all this that Amerigo Bonasera sensed but did not yet understand. “You acted like the worst kind of degenerates,” the judge said harshly. Yes, yes, thought Amerigo Bonasera. Animals. Animals. The two young men, glossy hair crew cut, scrubbed clean-cut faces composed into humble contrition, bowed their heads in submission. The judge went on. “You acted like wild beasts in a jungle and you are fortunate you did not sexually molest that poor girl or I’d put you behind bars for twenty years.” The judge paused, his eyes beneath impressively thick brows flickered slyly toward the sallow-faced Amerigo Bonasera, then lowered to a stack of probation reports...

Blues vs. Country Music

...com http://www.ehow.com/how_5888119_compare-blues-country-music.htInstructions 1. * 1 Learn the history behind blues and country music. They are both forms of American folk music influenced by earlier styles brought overseas. Blues music grew out of field hollers and chants sung by African slaves. Irish and Scottish balladeers borrowed the guitar and banjo of blues and thus created "country". According to Reebee Garofalo in "Rockin' Out: Popular Music in the USA", "Terms like country and blues are only used to separate the same kind of music made by blacks and whites ... designations like race and hillbilly intentionally separated artists along racial lines and conveyed the impression that their music came from mutually exclusive sources." Country is an offshoot of blues. They are essentially the same thing. In the PBS special, "Rhythm, Country and Blues," country is referred to as "white man's blues." * 2 Listen to the instrumentation in country and blues songs. They share many of the same instruments. These include guitar, bass, piano and drums, among others. Traditional country music differed from blues in that it utilized instruments such as the pedal steel guitar and fiddle. Modern country doesn't necessarily include these instruments, sounding closer to rock music, an offshoot of blues. *...

...studios. As owner of the rights, Arundel would wait to see if a movie was successful, and then decide whether or not to produce a second film based on the story or characters of the first. The proposal was innovative in several respects. First, Arundel would purchase sequel rights before the first films were even made, let alone released. Second, the investor group would not make artistic judgments or attempt to select the rights for particular movies based on predictions of a possible sequel’s success. Instead, Arundel would contract to purchase all the sequel rights for a studio’s entire production during a specified period (one to two years), or alternatively, for a specified number of major films (15 to 30). Third, Arundel’s advance cash payments for the rights, at an agreed-upon price per film, would help finance production of the initial films. No The idea was intended to capitalize on a few specific characteristics of the movie industry. Producing and distributing motion pictures was a risky business and predicting the success of any one film was extremely difficult, if not altogether impossible. Moreover, studios’ production decisions were driven by both creative and business considerations, which often conflicted. The combination of uncertainty and conflict sometimes strained the financial resources of even the largest studios. Arundel could expect to avoid the conflict between art and commerce and,...
