The JonBenét murder case occurred December 26, 1996. A complex combination of errors from the first day slowed development in the progress of the case. In addition the parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, originally refused to be interviewed by authorities. It wasn’t until January of 1997 that an interview took place, and that was on CNN. Further formal interviews occurred in April of 1997 and again in June of 1998.
In 1999 and 2003 District Attorney Alex Hunter and Judge Julie Carnes of Atlanta, took action that would remove the Ramsey’s from further suspicion due to lack of viable evidence. When a final suspect surfaced DNA tests dismissed him from being a suspect as well.

However, Boulder DA Alex Hunter would not sign the indictment siting lack of evidence. In October 2016, Pathologist Dr. Werner Spitz, issued a report indicating possible suspicion to the brother, Burke. In retribution Burke filed a suit against the pathologist. The Pathologist counter-sued. The JonBenét Murder Case remains open fifteen years later.
Final Thoughts
I chose this case because I wanted to see the criminal behind bars; and wanted to give the parents some sense of peace for the loss of their daughter. The conclusion, trial, and punishment phases, had they taken place, would serve as an example to other possible perpetrators that crime does not pay. This was not the outcome however; and the case still captures the attention of law enforcement, the media and the public. Hopefully the real killer will be known when technology advances to bring this to light; and it will give the family some peace.
The documentation of the procedures applied in this case can provide important information that can be utilized in future cases. This is especially important when a high profile family is involved. Ultimately as improvements in DNA surface and the real killer identified, these results could further influence an improved and proper protocol for future and similar
