Two hours before sunset on the first day of July 2015 in cloudy San Francisco, three gunshots were fired near Pier 14, one of the city’s tourist attractions, killing 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle in the process. The very drastic turn of events―on what seemed to be a cool and silent night―ignited outrage across the country which was caused by the acts of the suspected shooter identified as José Inez García-Zarate, who has since been released from a city jail without any warrants pending.
