Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 1920s. Although the original vision was to help men and serious athletes, it is a great exercise regimen for anyone. Here are some of the reasons why :

1. Equipment is optional
Pilates can be done with no equipment. This makes it perfect for people just starting out who are reluctant to allot scads of money and space to something "unproven" in their eyes. But, you can add equipment later. This means it can grow with you. As you get better, it can get more varied and challenging. This helps keep it fresh.

2. It focuses on your core
The strength and stability of your core back and abdominal muscles impacts every single thing you do. These muscles are critical to sitting, standing and getting …show more content…
This helps improve your strength. It also improves flexibility. Flexibility is important for reducing the incidence of accidents and injuries. The combination of the two goes a long way towards improving your ability to get through life effectively and safely.

5. It increases coordination and balance
Strengthening your core muscles improves both coordination and balance. This muscle group is key to being able to orient properly and execute even the most basic of moves safely, such as walking. Especially if you are in any impaired, improving your core muscle group can do good things for not only your fitness, but your overall quality of life.

6. It fits easily into a busy life
Because you can do Pilates with little or no equipment, it can be done virtually anywhere. You can do it in a hotel room while traveling on business just as easily as you can do it at home. It also gets results in as little as fifteen minutes a session. This is great for people with busy lives who struggle to find time for a fitness regimen.

Pilates has been around for nearly a hundred years and is a tried and true program. Due in part to strengthening your core muscles and requiring no equipment, it is a great option for

...Medicine Paper on: Medical and Psychological processes in Pilates Presented by: Hani Ovadia Introduction Psychological and physical health is greatly affected by behavior, similarly, different patterns of behavior derive from psychological and physical health (Folkins 1981). Consequently, both psychotherapists and doctors recommend to their patients to participate in activities that advance a healthier lifestyle (Bull 1995). The patients are advised to integrate gymnastics of different types in their lifestyle, includ ing among others: aerobics, yoga, kickboxing and Pilates (Howell 2011). Pilates is an exercise method based on gentle phy sical movements integrated with focused mind. The physical aspect is designed to tone and increase the flexib ility of the muscles and joints and also includes developing good posture, balance and coordination. The psychological aspect is based on correct breathing and mental concentration (Field 2009) In this paper I will examine the beneficiary effects of Pilates as a mind and body training method. First, I will describe the development of the method and the uniqueness of Pilates in comparison to other physical exercising methods. Then, I will further examine the physical and psychological influence Pilates has on its practitioners, while referring to research difficulties that arise and I will conclude with my personal opinion. Developing the method The method was developed by Joseph H. Pilates. In his youth, Pilates suffered...

Jesus and Muhammad

...Jesus and Muhammad Paper Instructor: Pablo Cuadra Axia College Still alive today are the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and Jesus of Nazareth. Many lives across the world have been affected and inspired by the life and death of the Prophet Muhammad and Jesus. In their religion, both Jesus and Muhammad were considered to be the greatest prophets. Many who followed and practiced their faith still consider both of these men as leaders of their times. What is now called the Common Era, Jesus is believed to be born in Bethlehem a few years before. Mary gave birth to a miraculous son named Jesus, which is told by the New Testament. As, in the New Testament a carpenter named Joseph is said to believe that he is the father of Jesus. It was also said that Jesus followed in his footsteps and was a carpenter himself. During Jesus younger years, there is not much said about them in the New Testament. There is more said about Jesus in the New Testament when he was approximately thirty years old. Jesus had done many travels. Through his traveling Jesus started preaching to small groups of people. He also gathered many disciples and followers that listened to what he was preaching. Many people would follow him just to hear what he was preaching. Faith, forgiveness and humility are what Jesus would preach throughout his travels. He also preached about great mercy and God’s forgiveness. Through Jesus travels, while preaching the word, he also performed many miracles. He is a few of the...

Reflection

...Brandon C. Strickland Theology 104-D03 Reflection Paper Introduction Through my research, study and prayer while progressing in the course Theology 104, I have gained knowledge and learned new principles that have helped change my understanding of what it means to be a Christian. One of the main topics that I read about in this course that really had an impact on my beliefs as a Christian, and reinforced my relationship with God was the fulfillment of prophecy that is seen throughout the Bible. A second topic that was addressed in this course was dealing with the assurance of salvation that God gives Christians in the Scripture that assists them with their daily struggles in life. These two topics together have stood out to me and have led me to further my study and research. Fulfillment of Prophecy The topic of fulfillment of prophecy is very important in a Christian’s life due to it proving that God is real and the Bible is truly his Word. These prophecies given to the authors of the Bible by God came sometimes hundreds of years prior to their fulfillment. It was necessary that these occurrences be fulfilled due to it providing further proof that the Bible is the Word of God and also to show God’s plan being fulfilled. There are numerous prophecies throughout the Bible that have been fulfilled as well as prophecies that have yet to be fulfilled. The birth of Jesus Christ was prophesized by Isaiah hundreds of years prior to the birth. In Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah is...

INTRODUCTION Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus is very clearly a teaching moment and John Points out that Jesus takes full advantage as the Christ, to teach Nicodemus the old dog, some new tricks. We will explore John’s descriptive journey the Teacher of Israel learning more than he could have hoped to from the Teacher of all teachers. ...Religion is a topic that has been universally debated tracing back to the beginning of time. Religion shapes our lives and the way we live our lives as well as the way people behave. There are too many religions to study and discuss in a single paper; therefore, this paper will take a closer look at Christianity as it is the most common religion in the world covering 33% of the world’s population (Fisher, 2005). Why do so many people believe the words of the Holy Bible and claim the Christian faith? Is Christianity the truth? To truly understand Christianity, we must dive deep into the Biblical teachings and share the primary foundation of their beliefs. “Christianity is a faith based on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus” (Fisher, 2005, pg. 284). In the beginning of this story we must start with Jesus’ mother, the Virgin Mary was visited by an angel, whom told her that she would conceive a baby and he would be the Messiah. She should name him Immanuel, which means God with us. An angel visited Joseph as well, who told him that Mary was blessed by the Holy Spirit and would have a son, who would save the people from their sins. Mary and Joseph obeyed God, the baby was born in a stable, laid in a manager and they called him Jesus, meaning God with us (Matthew 1:18-25, New International Version). At the age of 30, Jesus started his mission and selected a group of 12 disciples to help him share his message. He went place to place and preached about God’s love...

...Introduction The human body has been designed a mechanism to deal with pain and damage. The human immune system deals with all kinds of injures. The human immune system helps regulate bodily functions. When the body is exposed to a certain amount of pain the body goes into shock. This can be a life threatening situation or it can be the bodies’ response to the life threatening situation allowing a solders to keep fighting and things of that nature. If the damage the body may go into what is called a "comatose" condition. Where all nonessential function shuts down for repairs. This is due to the trauma that was experienced. Many of these actions are automated. This is because God has a system in the body to regulate the body. With that in mind PTSD is put into two different categories. They would be direct exposure and indirect exposure to an event. Direct events would be first hand experiences but the person. A point in time that the person felt significant risk of life and limb. An indirect traumatic event would be if an individual would witness a traumatic event. The mind has the same kind of defense mechanism. This is used to cope with severe mental trauma or mental stress. When a person goes through extremely powerful mental trauma that the mind cannot deal with the pain many things happen. One of those things is PTSD or post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This report will look at this disorder from a biblical point of view using the lives of many people. Dreams The...

Supernatural by Brother Branham

...Supernatural: The Life of William Branham Book 6: The Prophet and His Revelation 1960 – 1965 by Owen Jorgensen 1 Acknowledgments: In a project of this magnitude, it is understandable that I should owe many people a debt of gratitude for their help. First of all I want to thank Pearry Green for his vision, his encouragement and his efforts in publishing and distributing these books. I also want to thank Saundra Miles, David Buckley, Jay Weber, and the other people who spent many hours editing and proof reading the six manuscripts in this series. Their suggestions helped to make this a better book and a more accurate account of William Branham‘s life. Also, I want to thank Steven and Kathy Strooh, who put these books into audio format for all those people who would rather listen than read. I must certainly thank those people who have translated these books into their native languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Norwegian, Hindi, and many other languages. Supernatural: the Life of William Branham took me 17 years to complete. I was 34 when I started and 51 when I finished. To put that into perspective, my four children were in grade school when I began writing this biography. By the time I finished, three of my children were married and I had nine grandchildren. During the 17 years I worked on this project, my life had its ups and downs. I want to thank everyone who prayed for me during those 17 years. Finally I want to thank my four children—Benaiah...
