Themes are the message that the author is trying to convey to the reader. By reading the three selections there are many themes that one would have gathered. The theme that was gathered after reading all three was, “Appreciate everything that you have before it is gone.”
In the poem, “Cause I ain’t got a pencil” by Joshua T. Dickerson there were many themes that were gathered. In the poem it states, “Got us both to school on time, to get a good breakfast . Then when I got to class the teacher fussed, cause I ain’t got a pencil.” The theme that was gathered is, “You don’t appreciate what you have until it is gone.””. In the same way it is similar to the original theme, “Appreciate everything that you have before it is gone.”
