For this particular discussion, I chose a multinational banking and financial service provider company, JP Morgan Chase, which was enlisted as the 2nd most profitable company in 2015. According to Fortune 500 list, JP Morgan Chase & CO managed to become the largest bank in the U.S, the title that was previously owned by Bank of America. In addition to Chase's expansion, the corporation surpassed Wells Fargo in yearly earnings and was named as the nation's most profitable bank (Shi, 2016). Chase's recent expansion and success go hand in hand with the initiatives that the corporation is upholding. Some of the strengths of the financial services company include strong brand name, good financial position, and visibility. As the industry statistics confirm Chase remains to be the only bank along with Discover to maintain the good financial position, showing highest sales, market value and assets especially after recovering from the financial recession. …show more content…
Finally, the company has over 250,000 employees worldwide and enjoys global recognition. The company's weaknesses mainly derive from the heavy competition by other companies operating in financial services industry and overdependence on the US market. The company does not make a proper use of its position when it comes to global expansion. Additionally, In 2015 JP Morgan Chase faced the greatest breach of customer data were their private information became stolen, therefore, another weakness of Chase is the susceptibility to data theft (Hoffman,

Caso de Estudio: Sears. Roebuck and Co. vs. Wall-Mart Stores, Inc.

Bank of America and the Sec

...Bank of America Wardell Gordon Strayer University Professor Lateefah Muhammad June 15, 2014 Bank of America and the SEC The banking and securities establishment has been around virtually since the founding of this great nation. Right after the United States declared their independence from England they reformed and established a new way to bank and circulate money. From the start, the banking and securities industry have been working hand and hand. According to Sylla,” the sector that benefited most from early U.S. securities markets was banking. Banks in the United States, unlike most banks in other countries at the time, were corporations that raised their banking capital by issuing equity securities…active trading markets in the1790s.”(1998).This system was a ticking bomb for corruption from the beginning. There was little regulation the governed the securities industry. This sector was lawless like the Wild West. It left the door open for greedy bankers and brokers to steal and steal until almost everything was almost gone. These bankers and brokers was selling snake oil to vulnerable Americans. The SEC website states,” During the 1920s, approximately 20 million large and small shareholders took advantage of post-war prosperity and set out to make their fortunes in the stock market. It is estimated that of the $50 billion in new securities offered during this period, half became worthless.”(n.d.). This prelude to the catastrophic event called the Great Depression...

...the past 40 years, aside from the James Bond films, its output has been unremarkable (Gritten, D., 2011). MGM’s works, whether it is the 007 series, or "Lions for Lambs," "Valkyrie," "hijacked subway" are incompatible with the time, not only old-fashioned plot, but also the lack of visual shock effect. Indicating realism drama, action films have been lost to science fiction films, MGM just rely on stars to pull at the box office, apparently this idea has been OUT. Nevertheless, they did not invent the star system, but took it to its logical conclusion (Gritten, D., 2011). 4.3 Risk awareness is weak Even in 2008 has highlighted the decline, data from the point of view of economic strength is still called MGM strong: when MGM opened at JP Morgan Chase $ 250 million credit accounts (MGM, 2010), and its subsidiary United Artists Company also can provide considerable financial support, according to what MGM CEO Harry said, as long as the issue of the name of United Artists films, they can always draw on Merrill Lynch film production from the company's 500 million needed to fund accounts costs. At the time, MGM's $ 3.7 billion loan amount, annual interest to be paid as much as $ 300 million. But found less optimistic Silao En such high interest is dreadful killer (MGM Resorts International, 2010). Finally paid a painful price for his optimism to the 2009 mid-MGM's debt crisis began to emerge. MGM annual revenue of about $ 500 million, but the annual interest on the debt to be paid in...

Financial Institutions in the Stock Markets

...Just a year prior, the NASDAAQ returned nearly 90%, but one year later it plummeted 40% and continued dropping. The bear market of 2000-2002 erased all gains of the NASDAQ that to this day hasn’t even recovered half of its gains. The mood of investors and the American public quickly went from great to grim. The American and even global economy is strongly tied to the performance of our public companies. These public companies make up trillions of dollars in annual revenue. In fact, in the total market cap in 2008 of all publicly traded US companies was over $16 trillion compared to the $13 trillion of GDP. It is clear that publicly traded US companies drive the global economy (GDP vs. Market Cap from The Daily Reckoning). In this essay I will examine the role that publicly traded US companies play in the stock markets and how their capitalization, EPS growth, and investor expectations influence the prices...

Governor First Speech

...robin blackburn THE SUBPRIME CRISIS I n the summer of 2007 many leading banks in the us and Europe were hit by a collapse in the value of mortgage-backed securities which they had themselves been responsible for packaging.* To the surprise of many, the poisonous securities turned out to constitute a major portion of their ultimate asset base. The defaults fostered a credit crunch as all financial institutions hoarded cash and required ever widening premiums before lending to one another. The Wall Street investment banks and brokerages haemorrhaged $175 billion of capital in the period July 2007 to March 2008, and Bear Stearns, the fifth largest, was ‘rescued’ in March, at a fire-sale price, by JP Morgan Chase with the help of $29 billion of guarantees from the Federal Reserve. Many of the rest only survived by selling huge chunks of preferred stock, with guaranteed premium rates of return, to a string of ‘sovereign funds’, owned by the governments of Abu Dhabi, Singapore, South Korea and China, among others. By the end of January 2008, $75 billion of new capital had been injected into the banks, but it was not enough. In the uk the sharply rising cost of liquidity destroyed the business model of a large mortgage house, leading to the first bank run in the uk for 150 years and obliging the British Chancellor first to extend nearly £60 billion in loans and guarantees to its depositors and then to take the concern, Northern Rock, into public ownership. In late January Société...

Credit Crisis

...preamble. The version of mid-May, 2009, will appear as the editorial of the June 2009 issue of the AJM, under the title “Anatomy of a Credit Crisis.” I include below the June preamble, in which I assay a framework for understanding the genesis of the crisis. December, 2008: IN ITS LEADER of October 13, 2008, the Financial Times characterized the western world’s banking system as suffering “the equivalent of a cardiac arrest.” The collapse of confidence in the system means that “it is now virtually impossible for any institution to finance itself in the markets longer than overnight.” This occurred less than a month after Lehman Brothers (LB) collapsed, without bailout. Six months earlier Bear Stearns (BS) had been bailed out after JP Morgan Chase (JPM Chase) had bought it for $10 a share, at the regulator’s urging. After LB fell, who would be next? And if LB, who was not at risk? Despite the earlier U.S. government bailouts of the erstwhile government mortgage originators (and still seen as government-sponsored enterprises, or GSEs), the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), and the later bailout of the world’s largest insurer, American International Group (AIG), everything changed with the demise of LB. The FT was describing the freezing of the interbank credit market. After LB’s fall, so-called counterparty risk was seen as prohibitive to prospective lenders, at any price. This was revealed in the TED spread...
