In my personal opinion, Julie Lythcott-Haims, the author of “What’s Your Teenager Doing This Summer? In Defense of ‘Nothing’” is correct. While many parents require students to have tightly scheduled summers in order to build up their resumes for college, a longer resume doesn’t guarantee success in life. More specifically, I think that when parents plan every waking second of their children’s lives, they are not learning the important skill of managing their own life and making decisions. In support of that assertion, Lythcott-Haims states about overly scheduled students, “Chronological adults playing the game of life while scanning the sidelines for Mom or Dad to tell them what to do.” However, I have surmised that a lack of self-management
