I’ve always been a firm believer in understanding and comprehending the world around through your eyes and ears. In the video, comedian Jason Sudeikis illustrates that if one person is to yell out during a presidential speech it is misconduct but if everyone yells out at the same time then it is preserved in a different way. He also brings up a valid point during the skit. He says, “It’s like being in grade school again, if one person does it then they get in trouble but if everyone does it no one gets in trouble. This is a great example of what the bandwagon foundation is built on. Although Pre-jump can be given by anyone on the jumpmaster team, the primary jumpmaster can delegate authority but not responsibility. Holding, running, one riser slips, and other information can be inserted into Pre-jump as the Airborne Commander sees fit. Although Pre-jump training should be tailored to fit the mission, emergency landings will always be covered due to the many variables involved with emergency situations; i.e. if jumpers have to conduct an emergency bailout over unfamiliar terrain. The original article by Dapena on this subject was in issue #131 of Track Coach. From this I gather elite jumpers have an unusual sense of finding the right spot to jump from. No matter what the differences are ... they get the runup to work. It is similar to Finnish javelin throwers, who may differ in the first part of the run, but who all seem to know what to do in the last two steps. The path of the footprints in a high jump runup can be idealized as a straight line perpendicular to the bar, followed by a circular arc which ends at the takeoff (Figure I). Such a path is de fined by the position of the takeoff foot (its x and y coordinates), the angle between the bar and the final direction of the footprints' path (f), and the radius of the curve (r).
