...Jackson played in bands with Carlos Santana and Jerry Garcia. In the early 1980s he played on three albums for Jean-Luc Ponty and with the rock band Taxxi. From 1986 to 1987 he was a session musician for the rock group Journey. Jackson played on Journey's 1986 album Raised on Radio. He moved to Italy in the late 1980s and played on a record by Italian pop star Zucchero. The record, Zucchero and the Randy Jackson Band, was produced by Corrado Rustici who played guitar with Jackson on many albums in the early 1980s. He also played with Billy Cobham. In 1985, Keith Richards was asked to provide music for the Whoopi Goldberg comedy vehicle Jumpin' Jack Flash. Richards assembled an all-star band which included Aretha Franklin on piano and lead vocals and Jackson on bass guitar. This song was the fourth track on Aretha's 1986 album titled Aretha. Jackson can be seen in the song's video. In the late 1980s, Jackson was still doing sessions. He was notably on the first solo album by famed session guitarist Steve Lukather. Jackson was a featured bass guitarist on five songs on Maze's 1989 "Silky Soul" album. He also performed on several of Kenny G's albums. Jackson was the bass guitarist on the 1991 self-titled Divinyls album (which features the song "I Touch Myself") as well as featured bassist on several tracks of Tracy Chapman's 1992 release, Matters of the Heart. He performed on the singles "Bang Bang Bang", "Open Arms", and "Dreaming on a World". That same year, Jackson also played...

...The stones made original songs in 1966 but wasn’t as popular due to the two biggest bands at the time coming out with other songs, The Beatles’ Revolver and Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde (TheRollingStones.com). However in 1967 “Paint it Black and “Ruby Tuesday” were both Number one hits in the U.S and were popular in the U.K (TheRollingStones.com). These two songs were both really popular in both the U.S and the U.K, but they still had other songs that were almost as successful or were that successful. In 1968 “Jumpin’ Jack Flash was released and was a number three hit and was also a return to their old rock and roll after some adventurous songs they made before (TheRollingStones.com). After five months since song was released all the critics praised the song “Beggars Banquet” as The Stones best achievement ever, but shortly after Brian Jones left the band and shortly after was found dead in a pool so The Stones made an outdoor concert for Brian at Hyde Park and released thousands of butterflies into the air (TheRollingStones.com). These songs were just some of the many famous songs that they made during their time with many more songs becoming number one hits or at least in the top...

...The Reinsurance Market and its Role in the Lloyd’s of London In London’s financial district there is a massive building home to a famous financial market that handles risk unlike any other place in the world. The Lloyd’s of London insurance and reinsurance market has no limit on what can be insured. Insurance policies taken out at Lloyd’s include Brooke Shield’s and Tina Turner’s legs, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards’ fingers, and singer Celine Dion’s vocal cords. Therefore, if Keith Richards ever broke a finger and could no longer play the tune to “Jumpin Jack Flash” or if Celine Dion’s vocal cords were ever damaged and she could no longer sing “My Heart Will Go On,” he or she would be paid millions of dollars in insurance. It seems kind of ridiculous that someone would actually take these insurance claims and that insurance agencies would take on this risk, however, at Lloyd’s of London it is all about risk and reward. Lloyd’s does not just handle insurance though, but also another form of risk management that many people do not know about, reinsurance. Every day people use insurance as a form of risk management to limit the risk they face. To control risk, people take out many types of other insurance including auto home, health, life, and property insurance to only name a few. Insurance agencies accumulate millions of dollars of risk that if not handled appropriately can result in devastating loses. But, what if an insurance company wants insurance...

...Chapter: 01(Managing and the Manager’s Job) Page#26 Jumpin’ Jack Flash Jack Armstrong doesn’t have the cutest little baby face, but he has other qualifications for getting ahead despite the fact that he’s still relatively young. He’s smart and creative, and he combines a high‑energy approach to getting things done with aggressive marketing instincts. He’s just 36 now, but Jack can already boast a wealth of management experience, largely because he’s been quite adept at moving around in order to move up. He started out in sales for a technology company, outsold his colleagues by wide margins for two years, and was promoted to regional sales director. After a year, he began angling for a position as marketing manager, but when the job went to a senior sales director, Jack left for a job as a marketing manager with a company specializing in travel products. Though a little impatient with the tedious process of sifting through market‑research data, he devoted his considerable energy and creativity to planning new products. His very first pet project— a super‑lightweight compact folding chair—outstripped all sales projections and provided just the impetus he needed to ask for a promotion to vice president of marketing. When the company took too much time to make a decision, Jack moved on again, having found a suitable vice presidency at a consumer‑products firm. Here, his ability to spot promising items in the company’s new‑product pipeline— notably a...

...Chapter 1 Case Study: Harmonix Embrace Your Inner Rock Star Little more than three years ago, you had probably never heard of Harmonix. In 2005, the video game design studio released Guitar Hero, which subsequently became the fastest video game in history to top $1 billion in North American sales. The game concept focuses around a plastic guitar-shaped controller. Players press colored buttons along the guitar neck to match a series of dots that scroll down the TV in time with music from a famous rock tune, such as the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” and Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.” Players score points based on their accuracy. In November 2007, Harmonix released Rock Band, adding drums, vocals, and bass guitar options to the game. Rock Band has sold over 3.5 million units with a $169 price tag (most video games retail at $50 to $60). In 2006, Harmonix’s founders sold the company to Viacom for $175 million, maintaining their operational autonomy while providing them greater budgets for product development and licensing music for their games. Harmonix’s success, however, did not come overnight. The company was originally founded by Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy in 1995, focused around some demo software they had created in grad school and a company vision of providing a way for people without much musical training or talent to experience the joy of playing and creating music. The founders believed that if people had the opportunity to create their own music, they would jump...
