One of Jun Kaneko’s most important influences is Antonio Tàpies. Antonio Tàpies was a Spanish painter among other things, such as a sculptor and art theorist. Antonio Tàpies was born on December 13, 1923 and passed away February 6th, 2012. Antonio has been an influence on Jun Kaneko ever since he discovered Antonio’s work. When Jun Kaneko moved to Las Angeles in 1963 and while he was residing with Fred Marer, he was left alone for an extended amount of time while Marer was away. During this time is when Jun Kaneko was really introduced to ceramics due to Fred Marer’s collection.
